Sin in the Second City

I just read this fascinating account of America's most famous brothel, in Chicago at the turn of the 20th century. The book tells the true story of two sisters who try to legitimize prostitution and the rival madams and religious zealous who battle to shut them down. This era was reponsible for the whole "white slavery" scare and the formation of the Mann Act and the F.B.I. Some of the anecdotes are so outrageous I had to check that this wasn't fiction. If you liked The Devil in the White City, you'll like this too. Has anyone else read this yet?

I'm new here, so hello and thanks!

Re: Sin in the Second City

That book seems tantalizing because prostitution and brothel hosting have been a long imported trade in long history. Chicago has a very rich history and I would really consider reading this book and hope this ends up very well in my reading experience.

Re: Sin in the Second City

In addition, this story seems to remind me of the Western style of brothing and prostitution. Madams and harlets have been legitimizing prostitution in their distinctive respect. Interference and narcasism have plagued the identity and culture of brothels. This book seems to remind me of "sin city" in its universal context. I can't wait to read it
