Biographies about Women

Any suggestions on interesting biographies I could choose for my Book Club? Preferably about a woman, does not have to be about someone who is a household name. Maybe a little known woman in history who was strong, overcame obstacles? Thanks!!

I read and knit and dance. Compulsively feel yarn. Consume books. Darn tights. Drink too much caffiene. All that good stuff.

Re: Biographies about Women

If you're interested, there's the story of Oregon-born Opal Whitely, the "little nature-study girl", who has been hailed by some as a pioneer in the ecology movement (there's a website devoted to her), but viewed by many others as controversial because she later claimed to be royalty.  Two books about her are at B&N.  I hope this helps.

She really was a fascinating woman, and a great leader in her own right.

Everybody know about his wives, but his sisters led fascinating lives, as well (especially Margaret).

Re: Biographies about Women

Try Mr. Jefferson's Women by Jon Kukla, about the women in his life.
