The Coldest Winter: Who's Who

[ Edited ]
There seem to be a lot on folks discussed and places named that may be unfamiliar to some and certainly many are to me. I thought that I would put together an on-line glossary/index of some of these folks with some urls to accompany them.

If anybody wants to add any information about any of the people, places or events cited, please feel free to do so here.

Regards,

Bentley

Very true and you are welcome. The Korean War and these folks are way before my time so it is unfortunate that you learn about them in hindsight and/or after the fact. You learn what the historians felt about them.

Re: The Coldest Winter: Who's Who: Averell Harriman (page 1)

Bentley, thank you very much for these sources.

I've started THE LONGEST WINTER, and had to stop frequently to catch up on background material. I was born much later in the 20th, so my knowledge is second-hand.
Your contributions are exceptionally helpful.

Thanks so much!

You are welcome..I am in the same boat so that is why I am doing it. Thought since I was doing the research for background material that I would just post it so others might benefit and not have to spend the time looking for the information like I did. I am not so sure about these guys and their expertise on these military matters (Acheson, Truman and probably even Dulles). Relying on just the historians does not really give us much of a first hand view.

Somehow I am sympathetic to MacArthur and I am not hawkish..go figure.

"On October 20, 1950, the men of the U.S. First Cavalry Division entered Pyongyang, the North Korean capital." - page 9

This write-up describes the cavalry's division organization including the different brigades and regiments identified. It also describes the Unsan battle.
