I wonder why fathers especially are like this. They want to see their little girls, stay as little girls and their eyes deceive them when they are quite grown.

LOL! He sure did have a bit to drink. I think he was seeing all sorts of scenes "flash before his eyes" too- which might have caused him to seek solace in his wineglass.
