Middle Chapters Discussion - Through Chapter 17

Mel’s secret reminds Beau of his first wife, Anne Corley, who destroyed herself and their marriage. Does Beau have the right to be suspicious of Mel, or is he being haunted by the past?

This thread is appropriate for those who have read through Chapter 17. Please be mindful of spoilers about any material beyond that chapter.

Stephanie,

I'm not familiar with Beau's first wife, Anne Corley.
Hauntings by the past, hmm, sounds good to me.
I think I saw some of those ghosts swirling around in his head around page 195.
Maybe we need to hire ghost busters for Mr. J.P.Beaumont?!

You are too funny, Miss Kathy S., if he was bothered by Mel's past, why hadn't he suggested they share it. I can imagine the reason being he didn't want to share his.ha. I still can't believe he actually thought that Mel killed that man. That is insane! Oh! well! I know the stories about Ann, but still, how could he think Mel had done what Ann had done. They were two entirely different people. Maybe you ae right, Kathy S., maybe he does need the ghost busters to clean his brain out from all those cobwebs floating in there.

You're right Linda, good point....the only way to keep his own secrets is to not ask Mel about her past...or anyone he deemed close, about theirs. I can see if you were to get close to someone, and trust them, you would not want to believe the worst about them - but he'd already gone through it once. It would probably raise some of my suspicions too. As much as I like Mel, I was thinking along those lines, but discounted it. Because, most often than not, a writer won't introduce the obvious as something to believe as truth. (red herring) :smileyhappy:

Ladies,

I think you're onto something here - good point about Beau not telling Mel his secrets. Hardly fair to ask your partner to share when you're not willing yourself.
