You are too funny, Miss Kathy S., if he was bothered by Mel's past, why hadn't he suggested they share it. I can imagine the reason being he didn't want to share his.ha. I still can't believe he actually thought that Mel killed that man. That is insane! Oh! well! I know the stories about Ann, but still, how could he think Mel had done what Ann had done. They were two entirely different people. Maybe you ae right, Kathy S., maybe he does need the ghost busters to clean his brain out from all those cobwebs floating in there.
You're right Linda, good point....the only way to keep his own secrets is to not ask Mel about her past...or anyone he deemed close, about theirs. I can see if you were to get close to someone, and trust them, you would not want to believe the worst about them - but he'd already gone through it once. It would probably raise some of my suspicions too. As much as I like Mel, I was thinking along those lines, but discounted it. Because, most often than not, a writer won't introduce the obvious as something to believe as truth. (red herring)
