Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

May into June Schedule

May into June Schedule-------------------------------------

This schedule is not official--just a guide. We go with the flow and get side-tract often.

First-time Readers: We try to avoid or mark spoilers in the Read-along Chapter threads but the Topic threads by necessity do have spoilers. Beware!

Newcomers to the group: Introduce yourself and jump into the discussions wherever you wish. You can start at The Fellowship of the Ring (FOTR) if you prefer. This is kind of a perpetual group. In the meantime we will be starting Book 4 in The Two Towers (TTT) for our Read-along.
---------------------------------------------------------

The Two Towers: Book 4

We will be continuing with The Two Tower volume and Book 4, concentrating on the journeys of Frodo and Sam leaving the rest of the Fellowship for awhile. The schedule is moving along a bit faster than one book per month but the postings look like they are falling behind the schedule a bit. I don't think we need be too ridged about this. Right now I will leave the last week of the month for catch-up and then we can start the third volume, Return of the King, on schedule with the rest of the B&N book clubs in July.

May 26-June 1
Chapters 1-3
1. The Taming of Smeagol
2. The Passage of the Marshes
3. The Black Gate is Closed

June 2-8
Chapters 4-6
4. Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit
5. Window on the West
6. The Forbidden Pool

June 9-15
Chapters 7-10
7. Journey to the Cross-roads
8. The Stairs of Cirith Ungol
9. Shelob's Lair
10. The Choices of Master Samwise

June 16-22
Movie Version of The Two Towers

June 23-29
Catch-up Week

We seem to be totally without a moderator now. Jessica (or somebody) used to stop in occasionally and move our current Read-along threads above the line, our old ones out, and change our featured book when we moved on to a new one but she left B&N last Thursday. I guess we manage as best as we can. :smileysad: Hmm. Since we are unmoderated I wonder what mischief we can get in to! :smileywink:

September Schedule

Since we are not exactly having a lively discussion in SF/Fantasy why not get back to talking about the Silm and the Ainulindale? How about just slipping the dates again and get back on schedule. Is there anyone left who is game?

Sept 8-14
Ainulindale (pg 15-21)

Sept 15-21
Valaquenta (pg 25-32)

Sept 22-28
Chapt 1: Of the Beginning of Days (pg 35-42)

Sept 29-Oct 5
Chapt 2: Of Aule and Yavanna (pg 43-46)

Oct 6-Oct 10
Chapt 3: Of the Coming of the Elves and the Captivity of Melkor (pg 47-54)

We can also continue our discussion of RotK which we never got into. But this is more of a topic and character discussion book rather than a chapter one. At least IMHO.
