Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Re: Community Room

i love all the suggestions for the actors/actresses!!! i think Ivy would be better played by Kate Beckinsale or someone who has a darker, older look. Summer would be good if she didn't look so innocent... Plus I remember reading that Ivy had an Asian look to her. I love the idea as Dane Cook for Jinx, he's younger and definitely has a good sense of humor. All the other actors fit perfectly, Hugh Jackman as David is perfect and the one picked for Dennon. Too bad there really isn't a movie (or TV series) coming out!!!

That was another thing about Ivy I had forgotten, was her asian appearance. summer's face is too round and young looking. Make up could fix some of that.

Another choice I have seen suggested is Lucy Liu. She has all the skills to be a good Ivy.

Re: Community Room

That's who I was thinking of! There's quite a few different Asian women actresses these days that would work as well. Here are a couple that are from the movies Rush Hour...the only other ones I could remember at the moment.

Re: Community Room

I'm not a fan of Lucy Liu..and I am a fan of Ivy so that's a no from me :smileyhappy:But you're right there should be a small hint of an Asian influence. I think that Ivy and Rachel are the most complex characters to choose, so they would probably be best cast by actors that we aren't really familliar with...that way there aren't too many prior roles to compare. I am glad more people are joining the conversation...I'd love Kim's opinion just to hear who she thinks would be good! :smileyhappy:

Re: Community Room

NOT A LUCY LIU FANE?!?!?! BLASPHEMY!! YOU WILL BURN!!!!

Ok just kiddding. :smileyvery-happy:

Actually a movie like this, if there is a movie like this, is better off using new talent for the very reasons you mentioned. Plus, they work for a lot less. :smileyhappy:

Lucy Liu for ivy I think. Tall, can kick butt, and has Asian features.

Re: Community Room

More amateur casting director picks.....

Evangeline Lily as Rachel (Kate on LOST)
Alana De La Garza as Ivy (A.D.A. Connie on Law & Order)
Ryan Reynolds as Jenks (Blade Trinity)

Those are my main three at the moment, the other secondary characters are still fleshing themselves out to me.

Re: Community Room

Yeah, Sorry Vampyre, she just doesn't do it for me. :smileyhappy: That's ok, she has plenty of other fans here. :smileyhappy: I like the suggestion of China Chow that was mentioned earlier. She has the look of someone mixed like I would imagine Ivy does...only slightly Asian in appearance. I also like the suggestion of Morgan Freeman for Keasley...though it would be a change from playing the role of God :smileyhappy: Ryan Reynolds is another good suggestion for Jenks. I don't remember much about Dennon's (I think that's how it is spelled) appearance, I only know that I don't like him at all. I am only coming up with Cole Hauser as a guy that plays a good bad guy. I'm not sure if he matches nationality-wise though.

mmm Ryan Reynolds *drool* haha

Anyway...yes I still think China Chow is a good one for Ivy. She's not completely Asian but still has those dark features that scream "I can kick some butt". Also she hasn't been in many movies that I can remember... I think it'll be hard to cast someone for Rachel, and I agree with everyone else that she of all people should be a new actress, a fresh face with a personality that can match what we see in the books. Then again, it seems any time movies/shows are made from books it never seems to capture that completely. Still fun to dream though!

Re: Community Room

Ivy, Jenks, Keasley, and Nick; those are all I can come up with. I agree that China Chow could be a good match for Ivy. As much as I feel the ultimate Ivy would be played by Kate Beckinsale, she's already known for a rather famous vampire role, and that alone could possibly take away not only from Ivy as a character but from the other characters as well.

As for Jenks, Ryan Renolds could do the trick. I'd say Dane Cook as well, though I've not seen much of him.

With Keasley, Morgan Freeman would be an excellent match, I think, though him playing the role could have a similar effect as Kate playing Ivy. As for James Earl Jones playing Keasley, he's an awesome actor (J.E. Jones and Morgan Freeman share the #1 spot in my book), though he has a dominance to him, especially his voice; a strength I think could overpower the character.

Nick. From the moment I first read a scene with nick in it, I, for some reason, pictured Scott Speedman. Don't ask me why, as I have no idea. However, he may make a good Nick, and I've not seen anyone else suggest Speedman as Nick, although I could have overlooked it in the previous posts.

Those could work. However, as the above mentioned theory with the well known actors could occur, it would probably be best for all of the characters to be played by new and upcoming actors, or actors that are not so well known, but can fit the role.

Actors aside, probably the ultimate way to get the characters and stories across as a whole perfectly, and it's been suggested by others, would be not via live action but via anime. Virtually anything, visually, can be done, and voice actors can match up with the characters perfectly, without having to also match an actor to a character visually. Not everyone is into anime, but it would most likely be the perfect medium, aside from the written books, with which to portray the characters as Ms. Harrison intended them to be portrayed. And it wouldn't have to be limited to classic animation. It could also be done with CGI, such as Square Enix did with some of their films--Final Flight of the Osiris and Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children are examples. It seems CGI movies keep getting better and better, more photorealistic. And after seeing Transformers and the CGI involved there, I think CGI Anime would be an awesome way to go with a film or series.

Any thoughts on that?

Re: Community Room

Oh, this is another topic I don't like to comment on. I'd be happy with a few well known actors that I'm familar with, but I'd be just as happy with unknows. Having said that, I would like to add that I think that Johnny Deep or Sting would make a great Big Al.
