Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Welcome to Wordsmithonia

I would like to take the time to welcome you to the Kingdom of Wordsmithonia.  The Kingdom was founded by my mother, The Dowager Queen Kathy, to give the Noble Wordsmiths a place to expand our minds and have fun.  It was started as a lark but quickly took a life of it's own.  It quickly expanded to include Wordsmiths, Scribes, and now Bibliophiles who all come and have grand adventures.  We have ongoing quests to find enchanted ninja stars, we have ambassadors from many races, and have tons of parties.

When you become a Noble in our Kingdom you will be given a holding that you are responsible for.  We will commission a portrait from the Royal Portrait Painter and you will be given a grand castle to reside in.  All we ask in return is that you play along and have a good time.

We are currently renovating the Royal palace and planning an open house party once the renovations are complete.  I welcome you to explore the glossary so you can become familiar with the people and places in our realm.

Above all us I want you to have fun and enjoy yourselves.  Since we now have a new board the sky is the limit and new story threads are encouraged.  But please remember that this is a place of friendship, laughter, and fun.  So if you are new to this realm I ask that you leave a post on this thread introducing yourself.  The either myself, my mother The Dowager Queen Kathy, or my sister Princess Deb will give out your new title and we will welcome you with open arms.

Re: Welcome to Wordsmithonia

My son, dearest Ryan,

You have honored me in our realm by this wonderful gesture, by extending your hand in friendship, to all the world,  your generosity to all is more than humbling.  I thank you.  I knew I could depend upon you.   How this all came about, I do not know, since I have been away, still on shipboard, sailing to an unknown port, towards the coast of the UK.  I have not been able to communicate with anyone, the stormy seas have drawn our ship to rocky coasts, and this secret mission that only Queen, and friend, Choisya knows, could prove more harrowing than I had imagined..This message, for now, will be short.

My son, please give my love to your sister, Princess Deb, and my loving welcome to all.  Tell them I will apprise them of what is happening across the pond, as soon as I land on solid ground.

May you all be welcome here.

QM, Kathy S.

Re: Welcome to Wordsmithonia

Queen Mummy and my brother the King, I am so happy to have returned and found this spendid new Kingdom. And what a large palace. I didn't want to say anything before, but I felt that having only 500,000 sq feet was just so crowded. Hence my need to travel with my hounds. I can only hope too that someday I will be able to rise from my humble scribe status and feel equal to my beloved peers.

I have only one concern. During the move, labels came of my bottles of potions. I certainly hope there won't be any unfortunate mishaps.

My sister, the Princess Deb,

I am so relieved to have you back amongst us.  It has not been the same while you were galivating around with the Charlses and your hounds.  I hope you are back for a while to greet any newcomers to our realm.

Your Loving Brother,

Re: Welcome to Wordsmithonia

[ Edited ]

Hello to all,

I just could not stop my self from posting, being I am very excited to have a whole realm for us.  I just want to say welcome to all new (and established) Residents of Wordsmithonia.

This realm has been a fun place for us to relax and have fun.  We try to keep everything here on an up beat feeling, and try to put a smile on everyones face.  A little bit of fantasy and magic along with wonder.

I do hope you all enjoy yourselves here in this dream world we have.  We try to keep the peace along with comforting all visitors and residents of the realm.

Thank you all for helping us get through another day with a smile on our faces.  Enjoy our humor and fun.  And please feel free to join in on the festivities.

Re: Welcome to Wordsmithonia

Lady Debbie,

It is so nice to have a new face around the Royal Palace.  We are most pleased that you are joining us here in Wordsmithonia.  I will now give you your title and duties in the realm.

I hereby annoint you as Lady Debbie, Countess of Night Island.  You are appointed as the protector of and liason to all nocturnal creatures living within the realm of Wordsmithonia.

Edward Gorey, our Royal Portrait Painter, will be painting your offical portrait which will be hung here in our Palace.  It will also be published in the next issue of the Glossary.  While you currently have a private and secure dwelling.  Our builders will be creating a new castle on Night Island and those plans should be finished shortly.

I would like to once again welcome you to our Kingdom and I look forward to many converstions over a nice cup of blueberry tea.

Re: Welcome to Wordsmithonia

Lady Debbie, congratulations!

I have just received word from my son, King Ryan, that you have arrived at our castle!  I am so sorry that I was not there to personally welcome you, but, as you may have been told, I am away at this time, carrying out a mission of great need.

Please enjoy your stay within these rooms, and on these grounds.  Ask and all of your needs will be granted.  We have many gardens to stroll at your leisure; ponds, pools, mazes.  The kitchens are always open if your heart is to create delicacies, or simply eat.  We will soon have a new studio built for artists, to share their works of interest, or escape to a creative hideaway.  If you have any questions about our Kingdom of Wordsmithonia, simply ask.  Again, welcome!

Re: Welcome to Wordsmithonia

Please permit me to introduce myself.  I am Nancy the Wanderer and I seek residence in your fair land.  My trusty steed and I have traveled greatly and served many rulers far and wide.  It is my wish now to settle in one land and serve one king.

I hereby offer to you, King Ryan, your dear mother, The Dowager Queen Kathy and your wonderful sister, Princess Deb, my humble service.  During times of conflict, I will serve you as a brave warrior.  In times of peace (and I wish only those on Wordsmithonia), I could serve you as escort, messenger, boundary patrol, or parade and festival entertainment (of which my steed and I are especially talented).

I have enclosed a copy of a portrait for your consideration.

I thank you, King Ryan, for considering my request to be of humble service to you and your family and the fine nobles of Wordsmithonia.

    I await your word.

Dearest Nancy (code name harleyhoney),

I Lady TiggerBear welcome you. Though we are currently not a war (my apologies fellow nobles I know it's a dirty word) with anyone. We do look for scouts, borderwatchers, messengers, and friends. And hey always looking for parade partisapants! :smileyvery-happy:

From Over the Pond

I would like to offer my Congratulations to King Ryan and His Court on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, whom you recently visited, upon attaining the status of a Favoured Nation within the Empire of Barnes & Noble. It is indeed a tribute to your Perspicacity and Popularity that you should be awarded a Golden Thread, which is sure to go down in history alongside the Golden Rule and the Golden Age.

Yours in Perpetuity

Welcome to Nancy the Wanderer

Nancy,

I do apologize that I have not welcomed you in a proper manner earlier, though I'm very pleased to hear that Lady Tigger had already held out a welcoming hand, affairs of state have been keeping me pretty preoccupied lately.    We had a random thunderstorm appear out of nowhere on the 8th floor sewing room.  Not to mention the random clown pictures that keep popping up and that always freaks me out.  But anyway, back to the point of this letter.

I would be more than happy to have you settle in our fair Kingdom.  I have heard of your past exploits and am very impressed with everything I've heard.  You are free to settle in any realm that you choose though you may want to do some investigating first before you decided who's holding you would like to settle in.  There is a list of holding and Nobles in the Glossary.

Once you find a place to lay your roots we will be more than happy to provide you with whatever you need to make yourself at home.

Welcome to our Kingdom and I hope you enjoy your stay here.

Lady Choisya,

I am so pleased to hear from you.  I hope everything is going ok and that whatever problem has arisen within your borders, my mother will be able to help you out.  If you need anything please don't hesitate to send for it.

Many thanks, Your Highness.  And also to you, Lady Tiggerbear.  I will welcome the opportunity to investigage your realms and regions and lay down roots.  My sword and fly swatter I lay at your feet, oh noble King.  I also have a very handy rubber ball for the disbursing of random clown pictures.  I await your command.

Welcome Nancy to our fair Kingdom. Anything you can do to keep these insipid clown pictures from terrorizing my dear brother the King would be most welcome. He once refused to leave his bed, hiding under the covers for two days due to an unexpected attack of these clowns. It was most difficult to explain to the visiting Queen of Astoria, who had long requested an appearance with the King.

Thank you, Princess Deb

Deb, Most Noble of Princesses,

I thank you for your very gracious welcome.  I am penning this quickly as my steed and I have a brief respite.  We journey to your dear and noble brother, King Ryan, to offer our assistance with the dreaded clown problem.  My red rubber ball is quite unnerving to the creatures, especially if aimed at the face.  They think that they are being attacked by their own noses.  It will send them on the run, but as you know their memory is so short that they will eventually wander back.  VIGILANCE.  My steed can issue forth a most frightening roar that also sends them running.

I have found a charming cottage in your duchy of Wordsville, and with your permission, I will commence my negotiations.

Always at your service.
