I have been doing needlecrafts since about the time I learned how to tie my shoes and have never had a friend who loves to crochet or knit as much as I do . Actually, I've come across very few people who actually know anything about these crafts. For most of my life, I've worried that they were becoming a lost art. I always felt so alone (and kind of odd - my friends would jokingly call me "grandma") & craved to meet somebody who shared this common interest. It is so nice to read your letters & see that I'm NOT alone. Does this group actually meet & if not, are there any in the north Pinellas or south Pasco area that do?
I love crochet & knitting so much that I actually get butterflies when I see a ball or skein of yarn (when I think of the possibilities!). When Joann's & Michael's supersized themselves, I thought I died & went to heaven. I read patterns for fun and have a humongous collection of yarn, books, needles, etc. I even tried to get a group together with those I worked with to teach them so I could have someone to enjoy my hobby with. We met once & then everyone was too busy to meet again. (I actually tried to teach my husband. He got as far as a ch & sc stitch but thought it was too tedious.)
Since I've been doing this stuff for over 30 years (I'm 38 now), I'd really love to help any novice needlecrafters as well as discuss advanced techniques with those who have been around the block.
When my children get a bit older, I'd love to volunteer at a school or girls scouts (even boy scouts - times are changing) and teach this next generation what has brought me such joy for most of my life. Hopefully my daughter will develop a similar interest because, boy, she's really going to inherit a ton of needlecraft supplies!

ebunny,
This is an online group only - and considering that we're spread out all over the world a face-to-face meeting would be a feat ![]()
If you would like an inperson group, you could contact your LYS to see if there are existing knitting groups or any interesting starting one. Alternately, you could contact the CRM at your local B&N to see if the community would like to start a knitting group at the store.
I read and knit and dance. Compulsively feel yarn. Consume books. Darn tights. Drink too much caffiene. All that good stuff.

ebunny, are you on Ravelry? I've found a bunch of people in my area on Ravelry.
I've been doing needlecraft since I was pre-teen also, when I was in high school, I would knit on the school bus. There aren't many things I haven't tried over the years.

I forgot Ravelry....duh
yes, Ravelry can most definitely help find other knitters, etc. in your area and anything else you might wish to find.
