Other Fiber Arts

Do you work in any of the other many fiber arts? Embroidery, counted cross-stitch, quilting, needle punching, rug hooking, weaving, spinning -- the list goes on.

Feel free to post in the more general "The Crafters' Circle" thread, but if you want to talk in more detail about your fiber art, reply to this thread to start the conversation!

Re: Other Fiber Arts

I've done quite a lot of cross-stitch, mostly repros of colonial era samplers. Also a little needlepoint. It drives me crazy that when I was in Jr high I could do tatting, b/c I haven't been able to relearn that skill. I also do wool spinning and natural dyeing. And sometimes crocheting. Fiber Arts is one of my major interests, I even teach them at 2 local museums.

Re: Other Fiber Arts

I used to watch my Mom do tatting. I did get a beginner's tatting kit and gave it a try. I made the cutest little butterfly that I can pin on tops and jackets. But, I never took it any further than that.

Have you worked at all with Penny Rugs? Some of the colonial designs are just incredible.

Sounds like you will be our resident expert!!

Re: Other Fiber Arts

Once I made a penny rug. But sewing and cutting are not my thing. I still have it and admire it, tho. I've also done hooked rugs using wool strips on canvas. Those are fun to do with repro patterns. I'm no expert, but have been doing needlework and textile projects my whole life, and teach at 2 local museums.I love needlework mostly b/c I so enjoy watching colors and patterns develop. Happy to help out in any capacity that I can! I love talking with other craftspeople.

Re: Other Fiber Arts

I also sew and do counted cross-stitch. Sewing and knitting are currently active projects with me. I'm always knitting. I've been buying crochet patterns and a how-to book but haven't learned yet. If I didn't have to sleep or work, I could get more fiber art done!

Yeah - boy if we didn't have to earn money to eat and buy yarn - life would be great ;-)

I think you'll like crochet. It's much easier to fix mistakes in crochet!

Re: Other Fiber Arts

I don't know what the International Women's Day is. And I'm certainly open to becoming a millionaire myself.
