Hello and welcome to Letter Blocks, the B&N Jr. Blog specifically geared towards parents with young readers. Our hope, to paraphrase B.F. Skinner, is to not only foster great books, but to foster the love of reading.
To kick start the blog, we're incredibly excited to announce -- as part of our Summer Reading Program -- three months of guest bloggers who will be reflecting on their favorite children's books and how they influenced them and their kids. Rick Riordan, the author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series, will post the inaugural entry later this week. Thereafter, every Monday and most Thursdays through August, you'll read entries from authors like Charlaine Harris, Ridley Pearson, and Christine Feehan to celebrity personalities like Julianne Moore, Michael Ian Black, and William Shatner.
We'd also love to hear about your own summer reading experiences. Post a comment here about your favorite childhood reading memory, the first book you ever read, what you read to your children, your scariest/happiest/most thrilling reading experience, or any other thought that invokes the spirit of youth and the pleasures of reading!

What a great idea for a blog!
All my early reading memories tie in with Winnie-the-Pooh. I learned to read with a scratch and sniff Pooh book and my daily treat was having my mom read to me after my baby brothers went down for a nap.

Neat Idea! My kids are grown, but I do have two wonderful grandkids...8 and 5. We plan to spend this summer doing a lot of reading...and maybe even some writing!
Good luck with this new blog!

I don't have any young children or grandchildren but I do have a lot of young nieces and nephews that I will be spending time with. I also like to read young people books myself. A lot of great literature is written for the young.

Summer reading for me as a child was curling up in my treehouse with the newest Bobbsey Twin or Nancy Drew book. Both series I loved reading as a child. I can't remember a time when my dad didn't read aloud to me, fostering my love for books. Because of that, I read aloud to my children and they read aloud to their children! Now, I read aloud to my 7th grade children and they love it. They would rather me read to them and follow along in their books than read aloud themselves! Now, I just love to curl up anywhere with a good read. My greatest joy in life is to hear a child say that they have found a book they love!

My favorite childhood reading memory is my mother reading 'Where The Wild Things Are' as I slowly closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep...I love that story!
