Since lately I have found myself taking a book from the library that i had previously read , the answer for me is "no".Some books don't click at all.
Lisa's books leave a lasting impression , She writes with such an interesting style that we get caught up in the story and then suddenly realize we are being educated at the same time.I know more about ancient Chinese people and their customs from reading Lisa See's books than all the ancient history courses I have taken through the years. In addition this discussion with Lisa and all you friendly club members will enhance the wonderful memories of this great book.

Seagate, I agree with you totally. Its really nice to have a novel, a story, grab you and then teach you too and this does both. I also find that some books really dont leave any impression on me, or worse, were so bad I cant forget them lol. I think I will take several things away from this book. One, a good story well written and really interesting. Two, like you said, man I learned so much about their beliefs! I learned about their traditions, their ideas of the afterlife, what you need to do here (or be here)to insure a good afterlife. And Lisa, you told the story from the perspective of those in the afterlife, that what they say or feel, I just realized, was as real to me as knowing these women did exist, I got into it so much that I took their thoughts and actions in the afterlife for granted that that was real too, but how can it be? YOU cant see into the afterlife or stand on the viewing terrace with them! Isnt that interesting that I would just now think about that. OK, thats good writing LOL, I took the whole dialogues in the afterlife as a sort of fictionalized version of what they said then too LOL, does that make sense, what I am saying I mean? OK, thats a thought I am going to take away with me for some time, a good selling point for referring your book on too

From this book, I take away, first and foremost, a wonderful story; second, a sense of time, place, history, and culture; and third, an experience --- the experience of interaction among fellow readers with the author. I just doesn't get much better! :-)
I think all books leave something with you, assuming it is a book you finish. I rarely read a book I don't like because I am very careful in choosing what I read. However, even the books that were just OK do leave at least one tidbit with me. I can look back at the books I read and remember something about all of them.
Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.

Did you mean "mother love" or "mother lode" (meaning valuable or in great abundance).
I think the experience has been very valuable and the synergy has been in great abundance.

HEYYY, I just added a signature to my postings now because I found a fitting one for reading and because this book had the affect on me of finding this one, a Chinese saying that says it all to me.Now...someone tell me how you do those italics and bold prints, so i can italicize it lol. Hey Lisa, if someone in other clubs comment on my signature (anything you want posted at bottom of all your posts if you set it up), well I just might have to mention that I got it during a bookclub about a book called "Peony in Love" by Lisa See.
for italics in front of the words and after the words and in back the one with the slash on it...funny thing the codes don't show up just the end result
for bold in front of the words and after the words
Same as above... and then after
I don't think you are going to see the codes:

I also got so much out of this book and even more out of our discussions. I knew this book would be one that I would really have to concentrate on. It wouldn't be one purely for entertainment purposes. I wanted to learn from it as well and I did. I got so much more out of it than I expected to. I thought it was an amazing story and Lisa told it in a beautiful, magical way. It came alive for me and while I was enjoying the story I was also learning about the Chinese culture and traditions. It meant so much more to me because of the discussions with all of you and all of Lisa's comments and answers to our questions. I still would have enjoyed the book but it wouldn't have been the same. The women in the story were begging to be heard and I thought it was very fitting for us to talk and share. I wonder what they would think if they knew how far their words have reached today.
