I'm still around. I did post on the last thread Melissa put up for the Jane Austen, but then she never put up the threads for the other stories. But maybe she gave up because it was just her and me. I'm not sure, but I think she is reading a lot of romance novels now. Maybe it's for a challenge or something, and she doesn't have time for this right now.

No, it's because I'm absent-minded! I was going to put up the other threads, and must've forgot, and here I was wondering if you had got really busy *redface* I'll got put them up now. *redderface*
(I've been reading romance novels because that stuff is like crack-cocaine - but am very open to reading other stuff).

So, in the interest of finding something to read in July (and August, now that we're into summer), we've had suggestions of:
The Master Butchers Singing Club
The Girl Who Heard Dragons (Dragonriders of Pern Series)
The Book of the City of Ladies
I've read the first Dragonriders book and the City of Ladies, but haven't read any of the others. Thoughts?

I wouldn't mind The Doll since I just read it last year and would be interested in seeing what others thought of it.
Two books that I have laying around waiting to be read are Ship of Fools by Katherine Anne Porter and The Woman iin Black by Susan Hill.

The participation on the board has been very low. I would like to read something that a few people will committ to reading. Otherwise, it is not worth anyone's time.
Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.

I'm booked up (pun definitely intended!) for July already. so I won't be able to handle any more. Sorry I haven't gotten back to the Austen, but I am getting a head start on July by starting A Game of Thrones, which is really long! I could probably handle something in August; my own preference would be either the Du Maurier or the McCaffrey.

Game of Thrones!!!! I loved it, couldn't put it down ![]()
I would be up for McCaffrey in August. I've always meant to read more of her work.

That sounds good, Melissa! I've had it for a while, but hadn't gotten around to reading it yet (along with one or two of her other books). I think it's short stories. I reread the first dragonriders trilogy not that long ago, when she passed away.

Hi,
I'm back actually. I've just spent a year studying phonotics, linguistics, discourse analysis... and I passed!
I missed so much just reading a plain novel.
So I'll read whatever you are reading .

So what is on our reading list exactly?
I've just finished Tiger's wife, strange book indeed. I gess exotism is what made it so sucessful. But I must admit, I felt under the spell of the storieS, since I saw the book more as a collection of short stories than as a well structured story.
For something out of the ordinary, look at this ebook. Mature readers only please.

This message has been moved to the Read My Book thread in the Community Room.
Addendum: An author posted a spam ad for an ebook that not only did not fit the group's general subject matter but that I also found offensive in content. I am the moderator for this group and it remains my decision to move the post. Any complaints may be directed to me.

I was going to pick du Maurier's The Doll for July but I've been having trouble getting a copy into the store (sure, I can get it on my NOOK but I know some people prefer paper, so that would be pretty short notice to scramble up a copy). So I'd like to read a book by an author who has always been the bridesmaid in previous rounds of nominations/elections:
The Master Butchers Singing Club
And then I'd like to read The Girl Who Heard Dragons (Dragonriders of Pern Series) for August.

I should be in for August and September! Although I don't need anything to give me a chill - it's only 66 right now!

I'll trade your weather for mine.... It's been over 100 for the last week here. I'm not sure there is an end in sight right now either.

I'll read July's book. I happen to already own it, so the short notice is OK with me, but might not be for others.
