I read and knit and dance. Compulsively feel yarn. Consume books. Darn tights. Drink too much caffiene. All that good stuff.

Re: TMBSC: Chapters 1 (The Last Link) through 4 (The Cellar)

The first thing that I noticed about this book is the beautiful writing!  It has a unique “sound” to it.

My first impressions of Fidelis are:  that he is determined, having survived and then walked home from where he was at the end of World War I; that he is a man of his word, immediately visiting Eva to tell her of her fiancé’s fate and then marring her; that he is a good business man, making it to America and sending for his wife and child, then building a successful business.

The second chapter, “The Balancing Expert,” was different from the first in that it depicted two people who lived a completely different lifestyle than Fidelis and Eva.  Cyprian and Delphine lived less structured lives, were nomadic, and non-conventional.  I wonder what the people in the second chapter had to do with the people in the first chapter.

The details of the feud between the two butchers were both amusing and gross!  Dumping old bones, etc. on Eva’s bed was too much!  Blah!

Well, the details of the feud between the butchers were nothing compared to the discovery of the contents ofRoy’s basement!  Unimaginably gross!

This is a very unique story!  I’m eager to see what happens after Eva meets Delphine.
