I LOVED this book when I was a kid in the mid-late 80s -- my grandpa would read it to me. The pictures were beautiful watercolors. To avoid doing things his parents asked, he would pretend he misheard them and do some ridiculous thing that rhymed with what they said instead (maybe once washed the cat?) until the parents turned the tables on him. HILARIOUS at age four. This is probably the book I remember best, but it's all a vague child-type memory -- can't remember the boy's name or any of the actual tasks he can't hear...
Does this sound familiar to anyone??
