I was searching for long lost books and saw someone's post about this book that jogged my memory and I'd love to find it and read it again. I can't remember the name or author....I remember 2 boys, one boy is athletic the other studious?! They kind of don't get along in the beginning but they have to work together. Also I remember they found some twine, rope or string they had to braid? I remember it being a magical sort of adventure. I think towards the end they kind of merge into 1 being/person to defeat something. I believe the back cover showed a scene of skeletons with wings holding swords, they glowed neon green or the place was green. It had to do with boys/children finding glowing magic rings, red and green, possibly a yellow one, that could let them travel to different magical places, like another world. They weren't the kind of rings you wear, more like they expanded to the size you could step into their circle and be transported Not sure if they were siblings. The color of the ring was specific to where they would go but I think there was a certain amount of risk taken each time they traveled through them, like the connecting ring ending up being in a lake or something. I read this in the 80's. I know it's not the Magicians Nephew. I've read that like a gazillion times. My memory is fuzzy on it. Especially since I'm looking for quite a few different books. Ugh.
