I read a book ages ago and cannot recall much about it but I know it was good. I beleive it had a princess in it and I think she may have had a favorite place to go where they describe spongy moss (Vague, I know). When trying to recall the story line, I'm reminded of the Prince and the Pauper; however, this story was about a princess I believe and maybe a necklace.

It wouldn't be The Princess and the Lacemaker would it? I've only recently heard of this book, but your mention of this being like the Prince & the Pauper, but with a princess made me think of it.

Could it be one of George McDonald's books? Maybe "The Light Princess" or "The Wise Woman"? He has several moralistic books/stories involving princesses.
