The book is about a man that thinks he's na American working for either the CIA or secret service. He is actually a sleeper agent that was raised in a fake American town in Russia and then inserted in the USA to kill the president. He starts getting flashbacks about his old life when they try to acivate him.
Any ideas will be welcomed!

Is it possible that you are thinking of The Manchurian Candidate by Richard Condon?

I'm pretty sure I've read the book described in the OP, a long time ago. It's not The Manchurian Candidate, which doesn't include mock American towns in the USSR. But I can't recall what it is.
Not very helpful, I know. (One down, three million or so to go. Or fewer if you limit the universe to books published in the 50s, 60s and 70s. If I had to guess I'd say 70s.)
Currently reading:
Drift by Rachel Maddow
At Home in the Universe by Stuart A. Kauffman
