Have been trying to find this book for about 12 years. All I remember is that it was about a family perhaps traveling or moving and coming to a place where they lived near a river. An elderly African American couple lives by the river and fishes. The fishing is somehow a theme in the book. The kid or kids in this story become close with the elderly couple. There is some trauma or angst. I feel like I remember a part where the kid is on the roof of the house or running over a hill toward the couple who lives on the river. Then I believe at the end, there is a scene where the kid sees, or imagines he sees, one or both of the couple vanishing into the mist on the river.
I really want to find this book! I read it about the time I read Peace Like a River, but that is not the book, and I just can't think of this book which also has a river theme.
Thanks for any thoughts.
