Looking for late 70's early 80's childrens book

Hi, I'm looking for book that was about  a girl determened to enter a baking/cooling contest that was a regular brand name like pillsbury or betty crocker. There was some reason why her doing it was an issue ... like they were very poor or something. She finally made it to the cooking contest where she was rather unexperienced with the huge kitchen situation where a bunch of kids were working on their creations at their work stations.

Ring any bells?

Thanks,

Chey

Re: Looking for late 70's early 80's children's book

This is kind of a long shot, but could you maybe be thinking of Ginny and the Cooking Contest by Catherine Woolley?  It's older than your recollections (1966), and I don't remember a regular brand name like Pillsbury, but the part about being a bit disturbed by the huge kitchen full of other child contestants fits perfectly.

My copy doesn't have an ISBN (before ISBN's were invented, I suspect), but its Library of Congress Catalog Number is AC 66-10166.

This book is part of a charming series written around the middle of the 20th century, all starring Ginny Fellows, her best friend Geneva, Ginny's cocker spaniel Honey and some lesser characters like Peter Ladd, the boy who lives next door.  My favorite is Ginny and the Mystery House, where Ginny and her friends stumble across a frightened, confused old woman living alone in a creepy old house.  The old woman thinks someone is stalking her, and Ginny and her friends unravel the mystery.
