Here is the plot:
The heroine's and the hero were supposed to get married at the beginning, but she was afraid of him and in love with a stable boy. So she ran away at the wedding, leaving him at the alter. She got married to the stable boy and had a daughter, but he had only married her for her money and was bitter that her father had disinherited them. He died, and the hero who was a spy (I believe) found her one day as he was trying to hide/escape. At one point they are kissing passionately, so he does not here a soldier sneaking up on them. The soldier knocks him out and begins attacking the heroine, and then the hero wakes up and kills the attacker. They ended up falling in love and getting married.
