Are you the one who can help me recall the title of a book that I believe was written around the 1960's. The story is told from the perspective of US small town residents (mid-west locale??) who are living through the unlikely occupation of the US by a military general who hails from somewhere in the Soviet republics. The chapters alternate in point of view between the mayor of the town and a young man who comes under the sway of the general. I believe the title of the book may be the name of the general, a short name beginning with A or E. Does that ring a bell for anyone? If yes, I'll consider it a victory bell! Much appreciated!
