It was a series of 3+ books, set in the early aviation history of France. It was sci-fi in genre and contained concepts about the space elevator, airships, outerspace life, hydrogen power, and early rocket technologies. The main character was a man who was interetsed in another lady who was quite rich, and had someone else interested in her (France of course).
If anyone could help me remember the name of this series, I would be very grateful.
