Hi everyone,
I'll be moderating our discussion of Love in the Time of Cholera. I first read the book years ago, and am enjoying this opportunity to reread it, and discuss it with all of you. It's definitely one of my favorites. And coincidentally, one of the best vacations I've ever taken in my life was to the Caribbean coast of Colombia -- the unnamed but often alluded-to setting of this novel. It's unbelievably beautiful there.
But to the book. Some of the words reviewers have used are "unbearably touching," "revolutionary," and "transcendental." I think Love is all this and more.
In this book club, we'll talk about many themes -- of love (unrequited and fulfilled), ageing, illness, suffering, humor -- and how they all connect in the lives of these characters. We'll talk about the writing. We'll talk about García Márquez's magical realism. We'll talk about all of this and more.
I can't wait!
Jessica
