Early Chapters Discussion: Marianne's sister J-J

Early on, when she learns that someone is using her deceased father's identity, Marianne calls her sister J-J to say that she plans to drive to Nevada to investigate. J-J is against it. Why do you suppose she feels this way? Why do you think Marianne feels it's necessary to go?

Hi, Sorry for dropping out of the discussion, but I had to finish Arthur Phillips's novel, "Angelica" first.

There seems to be a painful history between the two sisters of holding out hope that their father might not have died. At least that's what I assume. When J-J says to Marianne "Please don't do this," or "why are you doing this," I cringe because, although no one's ever said those words to me, I would not like to be told that.

I cringed a bit also. It seemed Marianne's sister was saying Marianne was crazy to go. I wouldn't like being told that either.
