Many years later, as he faced the media, Joe Torre was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover baseball. At that time the Bronx was a village of twenty adobe houses, built on the bank of the Hudson river of clear water that ran along a bed of polished stones, which were white and enormous, like prehistoric eggs.

The man playing baseball was very old and named Juan Marichaldes. He struck someone over the head with a bat, but the man didn't die. To Joe, it seemed like magic. Later, Marichaldes wrote a parchment for Joe and his father in boogers that looked like runes. Joe spent the rest of his life in the dugout trying to decipher it by picking his nose and comparing what came out to what Marichaldes had written.
It wasn't until a century later that Joe's great-great grandson was able to read the parchment. It said, "A-Rod is not a True Yankee. Now Paul O'Neill, there's a True Yankee."
Later, the Bronx was bulldozed by a man named El Jefe.

And, oh, by the way? That bed of polished stones, white and enormous, like dinosaur eggs?
Yep, you guessed it. Dinosaur eggs. Mutant dinosaurs, with good pitching arms, and a predilection for steroids.
