In addition to being readers, are you writers, too? If so, I have several blog entries that discuss the writing process that might be of interest! http://www.janecleland.net/htm/blog/blog_archives.

I'm both a reader and a writer, and I think many others here are, too. I've had six books published, all non-fiction, and I'm a struggling fiction writer. How about the rest of you?

Writing fiction is hard! One advantage to mysteries is that there's a strcuture -- not a formula, but a format, that I find helpful as a guide.

When I went to Bouchercon and sat in on the panel discussions, I was amazed how many mystery writers said they are pantsers rather than plotters. I was assuming mystery, more than any other genre, would require meticulous plotting.
What about you, Jane? Do you plot everything in advance?

I'm both a reader and a writer too. Writing is hard work. It's a lot easier and often more enjoyable to read novels rather than write them. But there's always that compulsion to write. I particularly enjoy mystery and romance fiction.

I do plot in advance, Becke. I find things change a bit as I write... sometimes characters evolve in ways I didn't expect and they drvie the plot in a different direction... that sounds trite, but it's true... but more often than not, the advance thinking helps me write efficiently.

Hi Jacqueline,
My apologies... I just saw your message now. I agree that writing is hard. The hunt for clarity is one of the prime motivators, I think.
