Re: Got Books?

I Got Books today!!!  Becke, many thanks, as usual!  I'm amazed that I usually seem to be one of the first, and that they get here so quickly.  I was thinking that you won't be using those cool round address stickers for very much longer!  Great selection of books, as always!  I loved the Topper TV series and the movie with Cary Grant, so I am really looking forward to reading that!  And I never watched The Saint, but it's a classic, so those stories sound like fun!  And I love the little pink rubber ducky!!!

Re: Got Books?

I got my got books today also, Becke. A lot of interesting books and things. I especially like the Mr.Ravensmith card advertising The Wizard of Dark Street. That does sound interesting. And the book selection was wonderful as always. The suitcase tag gives me some ideas for zentangles. If you don't know what it is, google it. It's fun and relaxing and can be very creative.

Re: Got Books?

Glad you liked the books! I may end up sending another batch this month, because I've GOT to clear out more books before we move. So I imagine you'll get extra shipments and then probably a month or so with no shipments, while I get sorted out in the new place.

I've got a LOT of address labels to use up - dang it all, I just ordered a whole bunch of them at Christmastime. And I'll have to notify all the publishers/publicists of the new address or whoever buys this place will be inundated with books!

Re: Got Books?

I got my books today and I have to admit to doing a little jig when I opened up the package.  I can't wait to dig into pretty much all of them, but I almost whooped for joy when I saw the Mary Roberts Rinehart.  It's in great shape and one I haven't read yet.  I'm super excited for it!  Thanks!

becke, I got my package yesterday. I really enjoyed all the bookmarks and advert cards, especially the Killer Characters one. Since I have a lot of free time on my hands now, I'm thinking I might do a collage with some of those cards. Well, maxcat got the Mr. Ravensmith card, and I got the Inspector White one. I'd never heard of The Wizard of Dark Street before!

The Wizard of Dark Street

What a clever idea, to have character cards connected to the book! Reminds me a lot of the Harry Potter cards that came out with the first few books in that series. And that brings me to the other interesting card, The Auror's Tale. Looks like another HP fan fic production!

Another Allingham book--thanks, and also for Dangerous Davies, the Last Detective. That looks like it will be a fun read. I'm now getting ready to read A Sinister Sense, which is the 2nd book in Allison Kingsley's Raven's Nest Bookstore series.

A Sinister Sense (Raven's Nest Bookstore Series #2)

Isn't that a great looking chair on the cover? It reminds me a lot of the chairs you have put on the intro thread, when you are welcoming someone new to our forum,  becke. I'd just love to see a chair like that in a bookstore! Maybe Barnes and Noble and other Bookstores should put more thought into getting great, cozy chairs in their stores, to draw customers in. I love browsing and finding books in bookstores, and having a vintage chair in a nook there would certainly entice me to stay and read for a while(which of course would probably lead me to purchase a few books as well, hint hint). Thanks so much, becke! That was a great package!

Re: Got Books?

P.S. Thought you might like to know--I just visited my library's web page, and now I have The Wizard of Dark Street on reserve! I'm one out of one on the list, so it should come to my branch pretty quickly.

I love that chair! I also like it when bookstores have cats and/or dogs, but I guess that wouldn't work for a big bookstore - liability risks, potential allergy issues, etc. But still...

Re: Got Books?

I picked up lots of bookmarks and book promo cards at the Lori Foster Reader Author Get Together. And I found the Longmire bookmarks when Holly and I met for lunch awhile back.

I'm so glad you're enjoying those - lots more where those came from!

Hi Becke:

I GOT BOOKS yesterday! Love the selection - two classic writers that I never heard of (Charles Merrill Smith and Elizabeth Lemarchand) Can't wait to read those! The play from Craig Rice's book, Home Sweet Homicide, is very cool. Book of short stories, upcoming author novels and more thrillers will definitely keep me busy reading for days!

Love the trinkets too - small flashlight (very cute) and bejeweled bookmark (very lovely) and more bookmarks and postcards. Once again, you really picked the kind of books I love to read!

Thanks again!

Re: Got Books?

Becke, I did get a second batch of books, a surprise for me. I'm interested in the one book you sent by Elizabeth LeMarchand. I've never heard of her yet she did put out a lot of books. Were they just sold in the U.K? And thanks for all the bookmarks, dog paw paper slicer?, a tattoo and some other great books.

[ Edited ]

I got Suddenly While Gardening by LeMarchand, too; forgot to mention that one.  Many years ago I had several of her books, but they are long gone, so it will be nice to read her again - and I think this was actually the first one I had ever read!  Sometimes I feel like I have to purge a bit to make room for more, but then you always eventually wish you had them to read again.  Like The Balloon Man I just read; I used to have that one, too.

Becke, someday you'll have to tell your granddaughter that people all over the country were celebrating her baby shower!!!  Mints, lollipops, rubber duckies...

I never have to buy address labels.  I get so many from various charities that I could never use them all up!  Most of them I just throw away, but if I like them, I will usually keep one sheet.  But I have hundreds of them and never get around to using most of them.  They just keep piling up!

I've been using the St. Jude's labels lately because I don't know where the heck my fancy labels are. My desk is dismantled, my desktop computer is stacked up in a corner, and all of my papers are in boxes. I can't find anything!

Re: Got Books?

I really like Elizabeth Lemarchand. I've saved most of her books because they're hard to find - pretty much always have been.

Another author I like a lot is Margaret Yorke. I don't have many of her books, but if you ever come across one, she's another good one!

Re: Got Books?

I found some Margaret Yorke at my thrift store. Can't use product button because I am using my ipad in the car on the way to beach house in MD. But I have: The Scent of Fear, Safely To The Grave, Serious Intent, Dangerous To Know, Small Hours of The Morning, Pieces of Justice. Question: How do I know what books I have while driving in the car? Answer: I spent a lot of time cataloguing my books into an app called "Book Crawler" and it's in my ipad. Now when I buy books, I can immediately check and see any author and which books I already have. You can also keep track of what books you have read or who you lent or gave the book to. So cool! Check it out if you have an iphone or ipad.

Re: Got Books?

I'm packing up another big shipment of books. I've got to get this place cleared out, so if you posted comments last month, you'll be on this month's mailing list, too. As always, I've enclosed bookmarks, etc. I came across the handouts for a talk I gave on garden mysteries awhile back. There have been many new ones published since then, but since I had so many extra copies, you each should get one of those. I say "should" because I counted them out and ended up with a couple left over. Same with the Killer Characters crossword puzzles. If you didn't get one, or if you didn't get a pink mint and/or lollipop (4 weeks or so until my granddaughter arrives!), let me know and I'll make a note for next time. I'm sending these now because a) I don't want to pay the movers to ship any more boxes than I have to and b) because it's going to be very chaotic in August and probably September. This should tide you over until I get unpacked in the new place!

Re: Got Books?

It's raining books, Hallelujah, it's raining books... :catsurprised: :catvery-happy:

Got More Books today!!!  Thanks, Becke!!!  More Saint by Charteris, more Dorothy Eden, and an omnibus with three more Charlotte Armstrongs!  And I've never heard of the Judy Bolton series by Margaret Sutton (old book), so that should be interesting!  And, of course, all the extra goodies - I got all that you mentioned.  The magnets are cool, and the bookmark that's also a ruler!

Always happy to help out with your house emptying!!! :catwink:
