Re: June at B&N's Mystery Forum: A Month of Cozy(ish) Crime

I'd love to hang out, Becke. And you've really been busy putting up my books, old and new. Thanks for the hard work on a holiday.

Hi, Becke!

A little birdie told me it was Cozy Month here and I just wanted to stop by and say hello!

What a great crop of books coming out Tuesday. I see you're already featuring my friend, Janet Bolin's DIRE THREADS. I can't wait to read that one.

I'm keeping this first message brief, in case I'm doing something wrong... <grin>

Re: June at B&N's Mystery Forum: A Month of Cozy(ish) Crime

Why on earth is my name coming up as Zendy? I must have chosen that as a lark way back when I first set up my account. Long story behind the Zendy name.

I have an email in to BN to find out how to change it. In the meantime, my real name is

Julie Hyzy!

Julie, I don't know if you've read much of the backchat here, but we've been discussing the fun fact that you changed the spelling of one of your character's names, to match that of our peerless Moderator in this forum. I for one can hardly wait to get a copy of the book to see what that character does in the book!

BTW, congrats on winning the Barry Award for Eggsecutive Orders!.*sigh* I'm just a sucker for puns, especially in book titles! I do visit Mystery Lover's Kitchen, but have to limit myself and not look at the recipes too much, as I am on a diet. It's not so bad if I've just eaten!

Anyway, welcome to our group here at Barnes and Noble!

Thanks so much!

One correction - Eggsecutive Orders has been nominated, but hasn't won the Barry Award. The winners will be announced at Bouchercon in September. But thanks for the congrats because being nominated is a huge thrill!

Becke's character is only referred to in Grace Interrupted, but I think I may want to bring her into the story in either Grace #3 (which I'm working on now) or Grace #4 (hopeful the publisher will continue the series). I know exactly the part she'll play... but we've only just mentioned in this book.

Such a fun board you have here!

Now, if I could just figure out how to change that Zendy name....

I think you could try going to top of page under "MY ACCOUNT" and look under "MY B&N". I think that you may be able to change your pen name there. Usually, Becke has to make a request to change your pen name to an author name. Not sure but it may be a good start.

Hi Julie!! *waves madly* I gave your book (and the "Becke" connection) on our main Introduce Yourself thread about a week ago, too. (Not the cozy thread.) It's so much fun to see you here!

I started listing author names and had to give up - there were too many! I think I posted a link to the main directory. Sorry I missed you!

Re: June at B&N's Mystery Forum: A Month of Cozy(ish) Crime

Hi, Cozies,

Elaine Viets here. I write two cozyish series for NAL: the Josie Marcus Mystery Shopper mysteries and the Dead-End Job mysteries. I'm currently thinking of a real murder if I ever catch the person who infected my computer with "Defender" virus.

I'm touring for my latest Dead-End Job mystery. My visit to St. Louis last week was way too exciting -- funnel clouds, hail and flash floods hit an hour before I signed at the St. Louis County Library and the librarians and staff had to evacuate to the basement.

Re: June at B&N's Mystery Forum: A Month of Cozy(ish) Crime

Speaking of Cozies...

If anyone here is in the Chicago area, this weekend is Printers Row. The Chicago Tribune sponsors a huge literary festival on the streets of Chicago (Dearborn and Polk - ish) all day Saturday and Sunday.

I'm moderating a cozy panel on Saturday morning featuring JB Stanley (a/k/a Ellery Adams), Betty Hechtman, and Joelle Charbonneau. That panel will be indoors at the Harold Washington Library at 10:15 or 10:30 (I've read conflicting reports).

The Printers Row Lit Fest is always such a blast. About 100,00 people visit annually. We'll all be meeting readers and signing books at the Mystery Writers of America tent this weekend too. I hope you can stop by!

Re: June at B&N's Mystery Forum: A Month of Cozy(ish) Crime

Lots of interesting looking books going through this thread. Thanks Becke for putting all this together in one place for everyone and thanks to all the authors for putting their own stuff out here and featuring friends new novels as well. If at all possible it would be wonderful if you, Becke, or someone else in "the know", could get Daniel Silva  on the Mystery Forum to talk about his upcoming book in the Gabriel Allon series that's being released fairly soon, next week I believe. For anyone who's not familiar with Silva's work he, in my humble opinion, is one of the most talented espionage/mystery writers right now and it would be great to get some insight into the series

I'll check into this! So far this week I've had requests for visits from Daniel Silva and Donna Andrews. Tomorrow our featured guest is Sofie Kelly, an author Fricka requested. I do try to respond to your requests!

OK,  checklist from just this thread.

Bought and started Shirley Jackson’s short stories for LBW.

In queue at library for Hank Ryan’s Prime Time for August Fiction Club.

Have the first books in Clare's, Janet's, Beth's, Kari's, Joelle's, Elaine's and Sofie's mystery series on shopping list.

Purchased Julie Hyzy’s State of the Onion (#1 in White House Chef series).

Purchased The Cat, the Professor and the Poison and The Cat, the Lady and the Liar, #2 and #3 of Leann’s Cats in Trouble series.

Purchased A Crafty Killing by Lorraine Bartlett and have Sentenced to Death on the shopping list.

OK, so I’m all caught up, right??  TBR list is complete.  No new titles that I just have to have...?
