Can it be a whole year since our last Month of Cozy(ish) Crime?
This year we will kick off the event with debut author JANET BOLIN, who will be featured the week of June 6.
For the week of June 13, I'm hoping to feature an author visit with someone one of you specifically requested - I'm keeping mum on the details until it's confirmed.
Many of the cozy authors you're familiar with are published under Penguin's publishing mantle. We'll have two week-long features the weeks of June 20 and June 27, one for BERKLEY PRIME CRIME and one for NAL/Signet. I've been in touch with their amazing publicist, who is issuing an open invitation to their authors to stop in and visit with us.
Cozy
NAL/SIGNET & BERKLEY PRIME CRIME AUTHORS INCLUDE:
JULIET BLACKWELL
KAREN E. OLSEN
WENDY LYNN WATSON
MARY KENNEDY
LORNA BARRETT
AVERY AAMES
JULIE HYZY
RILEY ADAMS
SHARON PAPE
MAGGIE SEFTON
DUFFY BROWN
ROBERTA ISLEIB
ELAINE VIETS
DENISE SWANSON
KATE CARLISLE
LAURA CHILDS
SHEILA CONNOLLY
Wait - there are way too many! See the full list here:
http://berkleysignetmysteries.com/authors.php
No telling who will show up!
There will also be a guest blog from RITA MAE BROWN, although she won't be able to visit with us at this time.
On Tuesday, June 28 (Tuesdays are new release days), we will have TWO guest bloggers:
BRENDA NOVAK and WILLIAM DIETRICH!

Oooh, that sounds great, becke! I do recognize quite a few of those names, and of course, I'm looking forward to Rita Mae Brown's blog! I did get to meet her last fall, at a book signing in Scottsdale, after years of having read her Sneaky Pie books. Since then, I've also read all of her Fox- hunting books as well. If I were about 20 years younger, and quite a bit richer, I'd think about retiring in Virginia and learning to fox-hunt! (Especially since RM takes pains to explain that Americans do not kill the fox, as has been the tradition in Britain.) And I'm all agog to find out who the "Mystery blogger" will be! Can hardly wait!

Well, I'll give you a clue - it's someone you asked me to book. I'm just waiting to see if the week of the 13th will work for her. If not, I'll switch one of the others around.
Initially I hoped Rita Mae Brown would be able to visit, too, but that's not going to work out. At least we'll have a blog from her!

Seasanddollar - I'm so glad you found us! You have discovered the dangerous secret about these boards - you're going to discover all kinds of great books and authors. If there's one thing we all have in common, it's our humongous waiting-to-be-read piles. You can pile books up even if you're reading from a Nook, the pile just takes up less space! ;-)

The Lottery Well, if this is the place to spread the word
, on the Classics board we have decided for June to read short stories by Shirley Jackson, from
Hmmm, another technical glitch, I guess - no matter where I place the cursor, the image/link keeps showing up at the very top of the post!
Anyway, this is not a unique anthology edition - any copy you can find of The Lottery and Other Stories should be the same collection of stories.
We've been discussing short stories for several months now (first Poe, and then Lovecraft), and it has been working out well. Even if you are reading something else for another board, it is fairly easy to fit in at least a few short stories. Anybody can start a thread for whichever story they want, so it's not all up to one person to select them.

Somewhere I saw a list of the featured books for each month but now I cannot find it. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have always wanted to be involved in a book club and discuss the book I am reading with others who are reading it too. So now I just need to find that list again! Thanks in advance for help.

Kathy - We don't do a traditional book club here at the Mystery Forum. I invite guest authors every week - more than that during "theme" months like June's Month of Cozy(ish) Crime - and I post guest blogs from authors regularly, too.
Next week our guest author will be Clare O'Donohue - here are links to her books:
Missing Persons (Kate Conway Series #1)
Double Cross (Someday Quilts Series #3)
A Drunkard's Path (Someday Quilts Series #2)

The last two weeks of June will be a party, with lots of authors from BERKLEY PRIME CRIME (Cozy) and SIGNET visiting. You can see a list of these authors here:
http://berkleysignetmysteries.com/genre.php?id=11
Stop in to chat with authors who are new to you as well as authors you know and love. I don't expect you all to read the featured authors books beforehand, although it's always nice when some of you do! But I do hope you'll enjoy meeting the authors and that you'll find some books that appeal to your taste!

I looked this up, as I am eager to read the 2nd book in the series. It's being released Sept.6, which is three days after my birthday, so that will be a belated birthday present I give myself. Yay!!!!! I highly recommend the first book to anyone who likes cozy mysteries, especially those featuring cats.
I'm thrilled that Sofie is going to be joining us here, too!!!!
Anyway, I'm also looking forward to our "Meet and Greets" with Janet Bolin and Clare O'Donohue. Their books look enticing to me.
In re "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. I used to teach an Intro to Lit class, and the text book featured that story. I always had my students read it, and we usually got some very interesting discussions after the readings.

Hi Kathy, they used to post those lists on the Announcements board, but they stopped doing that a while back, unfortunately. I guess you would have to visit each board individually to see if they announce them in advance.

Fricka, you should come join us on Classics next month and discuss the story. I'm sure you must have some interesting insights into it, from having taught it!
