Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

I apologize for the quality of these. They were taken in a part of the hotel that had red carpets and red walls, and apparently it turned all of us red, too. It was hard to get a good picture because of the odd lighting.

Re: Malice Domestic 24 - April 2012

These are awful pictures - it was a huge room and I was pretty far back. I zoomed the camera lens, but I don't think it helped much.

The title for this event was "Another Shirt Ruined: An Interview with our First Amelia Award Honoree, Elizabeth Peters." The "interview" (more of a comic skit) featured Dorothy Cannell, Parnell Hall, Joan Hess and Daniel Stashower. And, of course, Elizabeth Peters, aka Barbara Michaels, aka Barbara Mertz.

Re: Malice Domestic 24 - April 2012

Duffy and I also went to a presentation by Luci Zahray, The Poison Lady. She is incredibly knowledgable - I'd seen a presentation by her at Magna Cum Murder a few years ago, and took a TON of notes! I didn't get any pictures at her talk, but you can read more about her here:

Re: Malice Domestic 24 - April 2012

Well, Becke, looks like you had a great time, met a lot of old friends, and a few new ones, too!  I would have loved to have seen Elizabeth Peters!  Since she is the first recipient of the Amelia award, can we assume that the award is named after her awesome character Amelia Peabody?  Is there a particular reason why someone would win that award?  Sorry to hear about Rhys Bowen - I hope she had a speedy recovery!

Yes, the Amelia Award is a new award named after Amelia Peabody. Pretty cool!

Rhys broke a few bones, as I understand it. I hope she was able to get home okay!

Ditto, dulcinea3.  It's almost overwhelming, the number of authors who were attending. Thanks to my participation on this forum, I actually recognize a lot of the names now! becke, that was so cool that you were riding on the same elevator with Charlaine Harris!  Have to say, though, that person who commented on your probably liking the Barbara Michaels books best too was a bit catty. I also notice that he(or she) did not join in telling Charlaine that he/she liked her books too, but changed the subject rather craftily.

I'm like you, though-- I do like the Sookie Stackhouse books that CH writes, but I also really like her Aurora Teagarden series and the Harper Connolly one, too. BTW, I read that there's going to be a filmed version of the Harper Connolly books--think it's for a television series, but don't remember all the exact details.

As for the wonderful EP-- I've read her Amelia Peabody series of books, the Jacqueline Kirby series, and the Vicky Bliss too, and even her stand-alone mystery novels, like Devil-May-Care. I also read her non-fic books on Egypt, under her real name of Barbara Mertz. Very educational and so enjoyable to read, esp. after reading the Amelia books.

Temples, Tombs, and Hieroglyphs

Temples, Tombs and Hieroglyphs

Red Land, Black Land

The first one is hardback, the others are paperback.

As to the number of authors at the conference, it was pretty overwhelming, especially at first. After awhile I started flat out staring at name tags rather than be discreet about it. There were several authors I saw briefly and hoped to connect with later, but never got a chance. (Like Janet Bolin and Dana Cameron, for example.) But it was still a blast!
