Re: Mysteries with an Archaeology Theme

Doomsday Book

Hi Basson-mommy12,

This book looks really interesting, the Doomsday Book by Connie Willis.

I have read every book by Michael Crichton; I liked Timeline also. I think the time travel premise is the same for both books but Doomsday travels to one of the most difficult times in our human history.

Thank you for recommending the Doomsday book - somehow I can relate at the moment.  :smileyhappy:

The Skin Map (Bright Empires Series #1)

HI  Becke, Skin Map   by Steven  Lawhead, is the first book of Bright Empire Series.

It is on sale in a nook book for $1.99  now.

A new series that delves deep into the mythic concept of ley lines—ancient markings across the world that, according to some, hold spiritual significance.

The Kathy Reichs books are great, but in that same genre...how about Jefferson Bass and the Body Farm books  :smileyhappy:

Tony Hillerman's Landscape

Fricka, I really liked Dance Hall of the Dead by Tony Hillerman. You're right, lots of native American history for archaeologists.

I thought you might be interested in Tony Hillerman's Landscape by Anne Hillerman, his daughter.

Visual landscapes with beautiful south west settings.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Mysteries with an Archaeology Theme

Another Kathy Reichs book that is worth mentioning: Grave Secrets. It's set in Guatemala, with Brennan working to identify remains of the 'the disappeared.'

Thanks for the suggestion of the Val McDermid book. I love her stuff but haven't read that one.

Relic (Special Agent Pendergast Series #1)

Hi Becke,

Relic (Special Agent Pendergast Series #1) by Douglas Preston with Lincoln Child.

Just days before a massive exhibition opens at the popular New York Museum of Natural History, visitors are being savagely murdered in the museum's dark hallways and secret rooms. Autopsies indicate that the killer cannot be human...

A great archeology read!  :smileyhappy:

Re: Mysteries with an Archaeology Theme

The Ardis Cole Series  My sister Loretta Jackson and I have several new books out with archaeology themes.  The Curse of Senmut is the first in our Ardis Cole Mystery series.  Our heroine travels to exotic places such as Egypt, China, and other famous world archaeology sites.  There are eight books in the series.  The first one was released this March. It is available as a paperback, hardback, ebook Nook edition ($6.99) and will soon be available in audio as well.  A trailer can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1xDG9V_DXg

The Curse of Senmut

We are also introducing a new series from Solstice Publishing featuring Arla Vaughn.  This series deals with Pre-Columbian artifacts from the Maya, Inca and other early cultures.  The first book in this series is The Mayan Mask of Death. Advertising for it should appear soon on B&N.  A second book in the series, The Lost City of the Condor, will come out next year.

Other books by us that have archaeology themes are Path of the Jaguar and The Viking Crown. (avalable on Nook)

Yay! I'm excited we found a date that worked better for her. We were shooting for October but that turned out to be a pretty hectic month for her. I'm looking forward to her visit - turns out she's friends with another author some of you may know - Hank Phillippi Ryan!
