[ Edited ]

Nice to see so many new visitors here today - Terry, Bimpo, Iona, LF -- hope I haven't missed anyone!

I wonder if we'll be seeing more books by and/or about librarians now that so many librarians are out of work. I live in Ohio, and sadly I know several people in this position. One is in my RWA chapter, and the situation is so bad she's probably going to have to move to another state. I hate to see our libraries at risk!

It's true that most writers have blogs and websites these days, but I'm sure it adds a lot of work to an already busy schedule. You mentioned being shy, and it made me laugh - one of my writing friends who is VERY shy in person, is bubbly and chatty on her blog. And some friends who are extroverts in person are terrified to put themselves out in cyberspace.  I think you just do what you are most comfortable with.

Re: Visiting Tuesday Author: Jacqueline Seewald

The economy has impacted writers as well as librarians. It's distressing.

Cuts to librarians both in terms of resources and jobs is pennywise and pound foolish.

Libraries provide valuable resources to every community. People looking for jobs,

for instance, come to libraries for help researching opportunities.

Being a former librarian myself, I feel very strongly about this. I value libraries

highly.

My librarian heroine, Kim Reynolds, is an ideal librarian because she tries to help

other people with problems that need solutions. Librarians make excellent

writers as well as amateur detectives. Reference librarians are always

solving mysteries when they engage in searching out information for people.

Re: Visiting Tuesday Author: Jacqueline Seewald

Hi Jacqueline,

I'm on the Board of Directors for my local library district and while experiencing the downturn in the economy have enjoyed a renewed explosion of visitors to our branches. We have not cut down staff at all and are trying to maintain the building and replacement projects on time and budget. We have a lot of resources that our patrons are utilizing more than ever and offer job fairs and free help with resume touch ups and the like. Now we are a large metropolitan district who relies a great deal on taxes from our citizens so I think we are suffering less than the small independent libraries. But you are right that libraries are a great treasure and need to be saved at all cost.

Plus I'm proud to say that you are stocked on our shelves too.

Hi, Debbie,

I'm glad that funds to your library have not been cut. I continue to read Library Journal and so I am aware that this recession or economic downturn has caused more people to use the library than ever before. Patrons have more needs now than previously.

And it's great to hear that your library carries my novels. Very encouraging!

Re: Visiting Tuesday Author: Jacqueline Seewald

Since some people are still having trouble signing in and/or commenting, I've asked Jacqueline to extend her visit through tomorrow. Thanks for hanging out with us, Jacqueline!

Can you tell us about what you're working on now?

Re: Visiting Tuesday Author: Jacqueline Seewald

One thing I'm working on now is my new novel for Five Star due out next August. It's entitled TEA LEAVES AND TAROT CARDS. It's an historical romance set in the Regency era with paranormal overtones and some romantic suspense.

I love Regency fiction and have been reading it for years. So I guess it was natural for me to put my own spin on it. I taught both British and American lit and minored in social studies/history as an undergrad.

I also write children's books, YA and middle grades novels. L&L Dreamspell, a small but up and coming publisher, is going to publish a young adult novel  I wrote entitled STACY'S SONG.

I also hope to have the third novel in my Kim Reynold's mystery series published. This has the title THE TRUTH SLEUTH. Of course, that can change. Any thoughts if this is a good title?

Re: Visiting Tuesday Author: Jacqueline Seewald

HI Jacqueline,

I also love historical fiction and paranormal, well ok I'm a book addict I'll read just about anything fiction and a few non-fiction.

Your new book sounds really good, can't wait to read it.

And the title to your new Kim Reynolds series, I think it's great.

Thanks for hanging around with us another day. Isn't Becke a great hostess?

You and Becke  are both great!  And I love discussing books. I love to read all kinds of books, but mostly fiction and particularly mystery and romance.

Re: Visiting Tuesday Author: Jacqueline Seewald

Hi Jacqueline! Wow, I had no idea you were so prolific! I love the TEA LEAVE AND TAROT CARDS title -- that's definitely a title that would make me open the book! I'll watch for it. Be sure to let us know when your next Kim book is available -- and I LOVE that title. It would be a shame if the publisher changed it.

My daughter is into YA, even though she's 26. I'll let her know about these.

Even thought THE TRUTH SLEUTH isn't available to our readers yet, would you like to post a short excerpt or cover blurb as a teaser? G-rated, as always!

Re: Visiting Tuesday Author: Jacqueline Seewald

I think I better hold off on offering an excerpts forTHE TRUTH SLEUTH until it's officially under contract. Let me just say that besides a new murder mystery for Kim and Mike to solve, there will be some surprising twists and turns in their personal relationship--like real life.

Re: Visiting Tuesday Author: Jacqueline Seewald

Guess I should have explained the reason I couldn't hang around and chat. I really need to finish an article to post on the online magazine I work for. Needs to be done this afternoon and I am procrastinating. Focus... focus...focus.... :-)
