The little guy weighed 7 lbs 3 oz, so he is a bit smaller than his female cousin was. SHE is going to be 4 months old tomorrow, and is still quite a robust little lady( I call her "Little Miss Sumo" after I saw a picture of her in a diaper, where it looked like she had arm AND leg muscles, although I'm sure that is only her baby fat.) The best thing about being an Aunt? I did not have to go into labor myself, and I get the benefits of having younger relatives around, for a short time, and THEN they go home to their parents! Heee Heeee!

Plus, it's going to be lots of fun picking out Christmas presents for the "littles" come next December(and for some years after that, too.)

Yeah,  it was pretty cool. There were only a couple of disappointments. One  was that I didn't get Paige Shelton to sign her  book I had bought. I had chatted with her during one of the breaks, but she left early, so when I looked around to get her signature, she was gone. Drat! Well, I will just have to catch her earlier next time.I also enjoyed hearing Donis Casey talk, but the book of hers I really wanted, The Old Buzzard Had It Coming, was not available on the book table. Rats! Since that's the first book in her Alafair Tucker series, I thought I should start with that. All in all, though, it was a great, entertaining day, and the best thing is that Barbara Peters indicated that it will be the first of a number of "CozyCons" . So, maybe next year, becke,  you and some of the other members on this forum will be able to come!!!!!

It's definitely babyland around here. My niece's daughter turned one recently, and is walking now. Another niece is expecting a baby boy in August, just a few weeks after my first grandbaby is due. And it seems half my friends are preparing to become grandparents, too!

Yeah, that would totally be a blast, becke. If it's kept fairly small, like it was this year, you would be able to "get up close and personal" fairly easily to the authors. Plus, some of them actuallly sat at the tables with the attendees during lunch(Jane Cleland was at my table!!!!!) As I wrote before, the event was divided into two parts. The morning session ran from 10 am to 12 noon, and we had some break times in between. That was all free to the public!

The afternoon session included lunch(hence the $25.00 fee for attendance, which basically covered the price of the catered box lunches and snacks, and ran from 12:30--4:00, and BP made sure we were finished by 4, so it wasn't TOO long of a day for those of us who attended both sessions.

So if you were coming from out of town, all you would need to pay for would be your airfare(or gas mileage if coming by car) and a hotel/motel. It's much less expensive than the price that conventions like Malice Domestic and Left Coast Crime cost, that's for sure. So you could use all that money you saved on convention fees on buying books!!!!!!

You may be onto something there, becke. There were several of my niece's friends at her baby shower who were also pregnant, and one of her friends, who came rather late, had her infant daughter with her.

It's kind of funny to think of my brother and sister-in-law as grandparents, but, well, they are, now,  and of course, that's what makes my parents great-grandparents. When I think of my mother, who only knew one of her grandparents when she was growing up, it's a different ball game. Extended life-expectancies do have some benefits; one of them, especially, being living long enough to see one's great-grandchildren. ( Or in my case, my grand-niece and grand-nephew).

The tote bag they gave to all registrants at Malice Domestic contained an assortment of books plus Ellery Queen and Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazines. I read both of them - one contained a really, really good short story by Jane Cleland. If you come across those magazines (I can't remember which it was), check out her story!

Re: Congratulations!

Fricka, you've been having a great time!!!  Congratulations on your great-nephew!!!  At this point, I have two young nephews (7 and 10), but what makes me feel old is seeing how old my friends' kids are - my best friend's daughter graduates from high school this week, and I have several friends withe kids in college.  As for grandparents, I can relate to what you said - I had only one grandmother (my mother's stepmother, who passed away when I was five), and I was very, very close to her.  My father's father died the year I was born/adopted, and his mother died when I was an infant, so I don't remember them.  My nephews have had my parents, although my father died a couple of years ago, and their mother's parents, her stepmother, and her grand-mother, so they're lucky.  While growing up, many of my friends had grandparents, but I don't remember any great-grandparents.

And Cozy-Con sounded great!  I am so jealous that you got to meet Carolyn Hart - one of my very favorites!

LOL, becke!:catlol:

I bet if someone put that image on a T-Shirt, he or she could sell a LOT of them at Mystery conventions!!

On a more serious note, I bet that the kind of women who read mystery novels are the least likely to actually murder someone, while the kind of person who would actually kill someone else, probably does not read at all! ( Or else they would know crime does NOT pay!)

Thanks for the congrats, dulcinea3! Is it just me, or does it seem that some years, babies seem to appear in "packs"?  Don't know what the odds are that my nephew and niece would end up having babies within a few months of each other. It's really great for my parents, and they are so thrilled with the arrival of the babies. I don't know that having younger relatives makes me feel older--in many ways, I still feel like I'm in my 30's or 40's but when I look in the mirror--Oy Vey! The worst part now is seeing the wrinkles starting to form on my upper eyelids!!!!! Yikes!:catsad:

As for being on the other side of the coin, I did know all four of my grandparents, but I only had the one great-grandparent, my paternal grandmother's mother. I was four when she died, but I do have a few memories of her. She had this bag of wooden blocks and other toys kept in a mesh bag, and she'd get it out when I was there to visit( As she'd had quite a few children herself, she did have other grandchildren, so she was prepared to keep the children occupied in play while the parents could visit with her).

In re your comments on Cozy Con and Carolyn Hart:

I just was so impressed with Carolyn. She is very humble, down to earth, witty, and approachable. I'm looking forward to reading her book that I bought at the Con.

Exactly - reading mystery novels shows all the ways a crime can go wrong!
