Actually, becke is more to thank than I am, Deb. She's the one who got these posted. Glad you enjoyed them! Wow--can it really be Memorial Day weekend already? Anyone have big Barbecue plans, or other travel plans for the weekend?

Deb--hope you are enjoying your birthday weekend! :catvery-happy:

Wow, Fricka, that is a good-sized baby! You'd never know Felicity was a preemie - she was born 6 weeks early, weighed 6 and a half pounds. This was taken on Mother's Day - that's my little sis with her grandbaby.

Does it make you feel kind of funny to realize your younger sister is a grandmother, becke? Somehow, I can "wrap my head around" the idea that I'm a great- Aunt, but thinking of my brother as a grandfather is mind-blowing for me! Glad to hear little Felicity is doing so well!

Awwww, thanks becke. You can probably see why I'm so taken with my great-niece. She is a big girl, too--she weighed almost nine pounds at birth, and my brother says she now is tipping the scale at 15 or more. She will be five months old in June. That black dog in one of the pictures is one of Tenley's canine "brothers," Lambo, who is a Lab/Great Dane mix.

I always laugh when I see the pictures of her in the pictures with the little boy--the first picture I call "Tenley's first boyfriend," and the second, "Whoops! Not so fast, Mister!"

Sorry, I don't know what the name of the company is that makes that little green chair--I''l have to check with my niece and get back to you.

LOL! One of my good friends had a boy around the same time I had Jessica. We have lots of pictures of the two of them together. And my sister's youngest daughter is two months older than my son. They were inseparable when they were growing up. Here's a picture of the two them, around age 5:

Awww, total cute, becke! Is this the same son who's expecting his own little baby sometime soon?
It's hard to see if his hair is red in this shot. Is he still good friends with his cousin?

I'm clearing out my basement and garage this weekend, and sorting through books. It's a lot of work, but it has to be done.

It does seem weird, but she was a mom first, too! I got married young, and didn't have kids until I'd been married 12 years!

Yep, that's the one! She's expecting a little boy in late August and his little girl is due in early August. Here's a picture that shows his hair better. My son loved that suit - he wanted one so he could look like his daddy. The belt was obviously too big!

I am going to a formal surprise dinner for our accountant's 80th birthday at The Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Philadelphia tonight. Tomorrow we are headed up to Jim Thorpe, PA to my daughter's in-law's house for a camping weekend barbeque in their backyard. They have a couple of acre's sectioned off into camping areas. Not thrilled about camping so it will be our first time overnight in the backyard. My daughter and husband are setting up a tent for us, so at least we don't have to do that ourselves. I may just sleep in the car if a big thunderstorm rolls through or sleep on someone's sofa in the house. At least I have some options.

I think it's funny though - formal dinner and camping in one weekend!

Love all the pictures! The kids are all so cute!

eadie, that's quite a varied weekend. At least you'll be getting the formal part out of the way first--imagine how you'd feel if you had to get into formal wear after having camped out!

Anyway, I just wanted to observe that it's funny how our attitudes towards certain things change as we age. I loved camping out when I was a child; I don't remember ever being concerned about ants or other creepy-crawlies when I was getting into my sleeping bag. Now there is no way that you could pay me to camp out! That sofa in the house sounds like a good idea to me, eadie. A light blanket or beach towel, and a pillow would make that a much more attractive place to sleep than outside. Of course, if your daughter and son-in-law are determined that you must "enjoy" sleeping in a tent in their back yard, perhaps you could borrow a neighbor's inflatable bed or cot. That way at least you'd be off the ground, if you get my drift! Good luck!

Getting ready to set out this morning to Jim Thorpe, PA for our camping event. The dinner last night was very nice. There were only 18 people attending. I felt really honored that we were selected to attend since his wife and son asked him a while back "If you would have a special occasion dinner, who would you like to attend?" He had his family doctor and wife, a couple of lawyers and their wives, two people from my husband's work and wives (his is the CPA at my husband's work). Today is his 80th birthday and he will have a party with family and other friends at home. The food was wonderful and the presentation was gorgeous. Such a special night!

So today we are back to normal and heading out for a camping trip. Actually, I forgot to mention that they are placing a blow-up mattress in the tent, so that won't be too bad!

Re: Fricka's pix part four

eadie, hope your camping trip is going well, and that your're having a good time visiting with your family members. becke, good luck with the clean-up work. That sounds like a very serious project to undertake, so you might want to take an occasional break to do some reading--at least, that always works for me. Sometimes I even get so caught up in the reading I forget to go back to the other work, ha! :catwink:

Memorial Day Crime Fiction

If you're celebrating Memorial Day this weekend, you'll want to take a look at some of these special Crime Novels set during the holiday. Memorial Day in the U.S. is now part of a three day holiday weekend. Many think of this weekend as the beginning of Summer, a time for barbecues (Barbecue Mysteries), the beach, the cabin, and S'mores, but the true meaning of Memorial Day aka Decoration Day is a day of remembrance of those who fell to protect us, of those who didn't come home. Many people go to cemeteries and memorials on the last Monday in May. There is a tradition to fly the flag at half mast and wear poppies, although since that's a WWI observance, not sure if it still happens.

And, of course, if you're a mystery reader, you'll want to read one of the following books. Let me know if I've forgotten any titles.

Memorial Day Mysteries

Memorial Day by Vince Flynn
The Decoration Memorial Day War by David H. Brown
Absolute Certainty by Rose Connors
Memorial Day by Harry Shannon
Shadows at the Fair by Lea Wait
The Memorial Day Mystery short stories on the web.

For the young set: The Mystery of the Memorial Day Fire by Kathryn Kenny, a Trixie Belden mystery.

************************************************

We've found it is more of a hassle than we can handle to go to the cemeteries here(plus none of our relatives are buried here), so we remember our fallen veterans in reminscing and prayers today. My dad's younger brother was killed in action in Korea, and his Dad(my paternal grandfather), who served in WWII as a medic, is now gone, too. I'm sure the rest of you have relatives you want to remember also, and this is a good time to do that.

Thanks for posting this, Fricka! My grandfather served 32 as an Army doctor, my aunt was a WAVE in WWII, my uncle served in the Korean War, and many greats back grandfathers served in the Civil War and the Revolutionary War. Thanks to them and all the others who have fought (and served in other ways) for this country.

Guess who's coming to...lunch?

Holly is visiting Cincinnati - I'm meeting her for lunch today. I've got my camera so there will be pictures later today! I'm not fond of getting my picture taken, but this occasion has to go down for posterity!
