[ Edited ]

Hi Dottie/bookwoman and welcome to B&N's Mystery Book Club! Unlike your long-time book club, this board is more of a chat room for mystery lovers to talk about what they've been reading and to meet authors. I'm so glad you joined us!

I'm a big fan of Laura Lippman, too!

I haven't read any Charlaine Harris only because I have seen all of the episodes of True Blood, the HBO show based on her books...I have a hard time reading a book after seeing a movie or show. I prefer to read the book first. I just don't like reading books when I already know what happens...are the books the same as the show, if they are different then I would definately be interested.

I know exactly what you mean, although, you might be surprised.  I can't speak to this book/TV comparison, but I am a HUGE fan of "Dexter" and I picked up a copy of

Darkly Dreaming Dexter  since I loved the show so much.  WOW!  The first few episodes were directly quoting the book, but by the middle of the season, the show went in a completely different direction.  Each was satisfying in its own unique way.  I have not read further into the series, only because my TBR list is already ungainly, but I'd certainly recommend it to anyone.

I hope Tigger sees this. I tried to fix a post that was invisible to you all and somehow managed to delete the whole thing. I was trying to paste in my latest issue of the Mystery Scene magazine newsletter. Since the image didn't work, I'll give you the link to their website instead. You can sign up to get the free newsletter there.  http://www.mysteryscenemag.com/index.html

Tigger - What would I do without you? I could see those posts, but apparently no one else could. Kind of like the Emperor's New Clothes in reverse.

I can copy images from the web, but sometimes there are too many characters or something.

Re: Welcome to the Mystery Book Club - Introduce Yourself!

Hi:

My name is Susan Elder and I am an avid reader of mystery books.  I collect old Nancy Drew books, Sherlock Homes, The Saint, Perry Mason, Dana Girls, Charlie Chan and I am still looking for The Thin Man.  I also read books by Patricia Cornwell and Dan Brown.  I look forward to any discussion about various mystery books.  I also enjoy all the old mystery movies from the 30s and 40s.

Hi Susan, and welcome to B&N's Mystery Book Club! I also have some old books of The Saint by Leslie Charteris. They are so much fun! I found some images of the old covers (mine don't have dust jackets).

I love looking at the old covers. We have come a long way in some ways and not so much in others when you look at newer covers. Less is definitely more. But I like the high tech graphics we have now. Wendy
