I think I noticed over on Goodreads that Beth Groundwater will also be at Malice Domestic. Have a great time, Becke!
Yes, I saw Beth several times. She's the membership coordinator for Sisters in Crime so I also saw her at the SIC breakfast yesterday. She's one busy woman!

Yes, that's a great quote, Deb. annnnd drum roll, please--- Welcome back, our one and only becke!
I am all agog to hear about your experience at Malice Domestic. I bet you are still either floating on air, or a bit jet-lagged, or maybe a bit of both, but when you have had a chance to catch your breath, please let us in on some of the details about your experience at MD. Sorry to read that you missed Leann Sweeney-- I would love to meet her one day, and tell her how much I've enjoyed reading her Cats in Trouble series of books. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't ask if you got to see Elizabeth Peters. She doesn't seem to make that many public appearances now, so to have her on hand at Malice was a big coup for that convention! Even if you didn't get to see her up close and personal, I'm guessing that you did get to meet some other interesting authors-- so spill it, woman, and tell us all, please!
I'm also counting the days until Cozy Con--it's this coming weekend, and I'm feeling the butterflies already!

Thanks, Fricka! Not jet-lagged (we drove - an absolutely gorgeous drive across Southern Ohio, through West Virginia and the Alleghenies in Maryland. Beautiful!), but definitely zapped from lack of sleep. The Sisters in Crime breakfast yesterday was at 7:30 a.m. and we'd been up until about 2!
I'm going to start a thread about it. Soooooo much fun!

Yes, I DID get to see the fabulously marvelous ELIZABETH PETERS. Four authors did a wonderful interview/comedy sketch with her. I was at the back of the room when I took pictures - hopefully they came out. She couldn't stay for the whole Agatha Awards dinner - she looks pretty frail, although she sure doesn't TALK frail - and she went right by me when she left. I was in awe!
I've also decided I'm the worst person to come to for book advice. All my favorites by famous authors are the books that sell the least, apparently.
Example:
I got to meet Charlaine Harris! In an elevator. A croweded elevator. I said, "I know the whole world loves Sookie Stackhouse and I do, too, but I read your Shakespeare books first and I'll always love them." Someone in the elevator says, "And I bet you like the Barbara Michaels books best, too." Guilty as charged! And much as I love Carolyn Hart's Death on Demand series, I'll admit I love Henrie O the best!

Thanks Frica- just trying to spread love while Becke had abondoned attended the conference ![]()
Becke so glad you had fun at Malice Domestic
it does sound like you behaved yourself, at least
Speaking of not goint to you for book advice, I had a similar thing happen to me. I was on a live chat with Jayne Ann Krentz and asked her about one of her connected historical romance and if those particular characters would ever come back, she told me that those novels sold so poorly that her agent almost pulled her out of the historical genre totally. Wow what a waste that would have been. Although I don't really believe it's our Tastes Beck I think it's the times.
Remember my fav author Deborah Cooke you knew her as Clair Cooke, well she always wrote historical romance and had this idea about a paranormal/urban fantasy, well let's just say she was fantasy when fantasy wasn't cool and didn't have another published book for almost four years until the publishing industry caught up with the whole paranormal is the new black attitude.
Glad you're back is was way too lonely here with out you, cobwebs were starting to grow between the threads ![]()

That's too funny! I think we are just too discerning for the mass market! ;-)
(It was true of my own books, too - my garden books. The one I had the most fun writing sold the least. Oh well!)
It does seem as if I've been gone a lot - probably because I have! I've been living out of a suitcase in Chicago and Maryland, but I should be home for awhile now. I'm happy to be back!

I posted a separate thread for the Malice Domestic pix, by the way. If you want to see them all in one album, check out my Facebook page:

Mary - It was so much fun, but very hard to find people if you didn't know what they look like. (And you can't always tell by their Facebook pictures!) I'm sure I crossed paths with several of the people I was looking for without realizing it! Wish you could have been there!

Ooooh, I am sooo excited--one more day until Cozy Con!!!!!
I have met Avery Aames, Jenn McKinlay, and Kate Carlisle before, but it will be great to see them again and pick up their latest books. I'm very much looking forward to the panels and then hopefully getting to meet some of the other authors, with Jane Cleland and Carolyn Hart high up on that list. Wheeeee!

I saw Avery and Kate at Malice, but never did connect with Jenn. I saw Carolyn Hart briefly, but couldn't find Jane. Say hi to them all for me!
An interesting start to the day...

See the purple fish in the bottom right here? This is my desk. As you can see, I like doodads.
This morning, I pulled my golden rooster cookie cutter (thanks, Romance Bandits!) from the lamp to dust it. I heard a "plonk" and tea splashed from my mug. That little purple fish? He decided to go for a swim. Somehow he got tangled in the cookie cutter and took a dive into my tea.
When I went to the kitchen to make a fish-free cup of tea, Marty asked what was wrong with the first one. "Watch," I said, and then started laughing so hard, tears were running down my face. I tipped the mug over the sink and poured it out. When the purple fish was revealed, he started cracking up, too.
I think this is going to be an interesting day...

Curl up with a good book...

Wow, yesterday was really a full day for me. In addition to my attending CozyCon, my niece gave birth to her son at around 7:15 a.m, thus making him a "Cinco de Mayo" baby. I now am the proud Grand-Aunt to both a baby girl AND boy, all in the space of 5 months. Of course, my parents are thrilled at being Great-granparents for the second time, too. We went out to eat at Olive Garden for dinner, and I had an Italian Margarita to celebrate.
As for Cozy Con, I am still floating on air. I met Lesa, the Librarian who has her own blog spot for book critiques on the way in, and sat at the same table during the panels, which were on a dais just in front of us. As the camera I had is a disposable instamatic, and I haven't had time to develop my photos yet, I thought I'd put a link to Lesa's blog here, so you can see some of the pictures she took at the event:
http://lesasbookcritiques.blogspot.com/
becke, I did get to visit briefly with Jane Cleland, Jenn McKinlay, and Carolyn Hart, and I gave them all your greetings, and they said to tell you Hi! I got to visit with almost all of the author attendees, and got a lot of books signed.
