You're welcome, becke. I know getting ready to move, with cleaning and packing, can be time consuming. Hope you remember to take breaks so you don't get too tired--that's when injuries can occur. I hope bobbi will feel free to join in on discussions here in the forum-- we love having newbies adding their perspective.

That sounds like a lot of fun, Holly. Hope you have a great day!!!!![]()
Yesterday was my mom's 88th birthday. We went for brunch at Village Inn, and then an early dinner at Olive Garden to celebrate. A family friend came over in the evening--she brought a chocolate mousse-covered angel food cake. We were so stuffed, we didn't even slice it up--maybe we'll try a piece for breakfast today.
Today is going to be quite auspicious for us. Mom, Dad, and I are going to my brother's for a luncheon/family get together. It's very exciting, because my niece-in-law from Florida is here with her five-month-old baby girl, and my niece and her husband are going to be there with their month-old baby boy. This means Mom and Dad will get to see both of their Great-grand-children, and I'll be seeing my Grand-niece and nephew. Whoooo-hoooo! ![]()

If any of you are buying books as Father's Day gifts, share them with us on the new thread I started. I've listed some recommendations, but I'd love your suggestions, too!

Thanks, becke. Same to you!
It's pretty hot here in Phoenix now, so I am spending as much time indoors as possible.
We did have a great visit out at my brother's yesterday. We got to see both great-grand-children, and my grand-niece is such a beautiful little girl, who loves to smile. She's very camera-conscious, and seems to love to pose when her mom or anyone else is taking her picture. We all got to take turns holding her. The tiny one, my month-old grand-nephew, slept through most of our visit, although he did
fuss just a bit a couple of times. We got some cute shots of he and his cousin lying next to each other on a blanket on the living room floor. We had a great time eating and visiting.

Sounds like fun, Fricka!
My son is in Portland, where his fiancee comes from. Her mom hasn't seen her since Christmas, so I'm sure there is MUCH excitement today! Kim's family is having another baby shower for her tomorrow. Kim is staying for three weeks, but Jon can't take off that much work. It's going to be hard for him to leave her next week!
It's very hot here, too! My house smells of floor polish, but the floors look great! Now we're madly packing up my daughter's things - the movers are picking up her stuff on Monday. I'm exhausted - more mentally than physically, I think!

Sorry I've been Absent from the forum for a few days. Last Saturday, my mom was sick all day, spitting up intermittently, along with spates of diarrhea. . When I found her around midnight, with her hands shaking uncontrollably, I knew we had to call the paramedics immediately. Luckily, we live fairly close to a fire house, so it didn't take them long to get here, although at the time it seemed like an eternity.
After the EMT's got my mom loaded into the ambulance is where the comedy of errors happened to my dad and me. We both assumed Mom would be taken to our closest hospital, so that's where we went. I told the woman at the front desk my mother's name, and that she should have been brought in by ambulance. She said they were probably getting her ready in the back, and she'd let us know when we could see her. We sat there almost 30 minutes while the woman yakked endlessly on the phone--I suspected she was talking to a friend, not necessarily someone at work, but with the acoustics, I couldn't tell for sure. After we had waited for 30 minutes, the receptionist told us that Mom wasn't there--that no ambulance had brought a patient in. She told me I could use the phone in the lobby and call operator, and ask for information as to which hospital had my mother. That's the only useful thing that woman did the whole night, as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, I found out that Mom had been taken to an emergency room connected with the John C. Lincoln Hospital/Clinic in mid-town Phoenix, so Dad and I drove down there. More waiting in the lobby, but at least this time we knew Mom was there. I curled up on a sofa and took a short nap. After a while, we were told we could visit mom, and were escorted through a labyrinth of corridors to where her room was.
The Doctor on call told us that she apparently had picked up a stomach bug, and had a bladder infection. She also had to have some ultrasound tests run before she got dismissed, with prescriptions for her infection and the nausea.
The next day, I started feeling nauseous myself, and before long I was a victim of terrible diarrhea. Luckily I didn't have the vomiting part of the illness, but that's the only good thing about my catching the bug. Then yesterday morning, my Dad got up in the morning to tell me that he had also gotten sick, and was visiting the bathroom often, and he had gotten both parts of the bug. We also found out that my sister-in-law and niece had gotten the bug, too. So far, my brother hasn't gotten the bug, and I hope he and my nephew-n-law wont't get it. I'm starting to feel a bit more like reading now, but haven't been on the computer for a few days. I hope everyone else on the forum is healthy and happy! I wouldn't wish this viral infection on anyone else. I'm still keeping an eye on Mom--I don't know if I'll be able to keep her from overdoing with eating, once she gets to feeling better. She already had a slight relapse last night, which she had to tell Dad and me about, this morning, in more detail than we would have preferred to hear! Oh, well, at least she's well enough to talk now.

Oh my gosh, how awful! I can't believe you had to wait half an hour before they told you where your mom was! And then to have so many people in your family sick on top of this - you must be exhausted! I hope your mom is okay, and that your dad and everyone else gets well soon! ((hugs))

optic_i, I think you live in New England, too? Yeah, isn't this weather crazy? Yesterday was nice, in the 70s, but all those days where it barely got into the 60s, if at all, and I had to put the heat on and wear sweatshirts! And now in the 90s, and possibly to hit 100 today or tomorrow! I still don't trust that the chilly weather is gone for the summer, so I still have my warmer clothes in the drawers and haven't switched them out with my t-shirts and shorts yet! I do have a few t-shirts that I kept in the drawers all year, so I do have some things to wear without going through the work of switching over.
Fricka, that was some adventure! I'm sorry that your mother was so sick she had to go to the hospital and that most of the rest of your family has gotten the same bug. I hope everybody feels better soon! I had to take my mother to the doctor today. I don't know if I had mentioned that in March she had an operation to remove some cancerous polyps from her bladder. The doctor had told me that they might have only been on the wall of the bladder, but they also might have gone into the wall, and if that was the case, more extreme treatment would be required, so it's been a stressful few months. She had the first three-month follow-up today, and everything was fine! What a relief!!!

Hi dulcinea 3, Yes I live in CT. And I also have been keeping a fleece jacket in the car as well as a rain coat. It's been chilly here too the last couple weeks ! So the 30 degree increase today from yesterday takes some getting used too. We reached 96 today but we are inland near Mass. But the coast was in the 90's too which is unusual since they get a sea breeze.
I am also glad that your Mom's check- up went well

Fricka, my gosh how awful I hope that you all feel better soon.
The weather is a constant talk at the water cooler where most of us here just want to dump it over our heads ![]()
It's been in the mid to upper 90s all week here and hopefully today we may get some rain, but usually when it's that hot the rain is usually severe and that's not good either.
Other than that I resigned my seat on the Library board where I've served for the last five years, I was just sick of hitting my head against a wall and interestingly the only person who called and asked me to change my mind was the director of the library, none of the board members said anything at all, so I guess that says something. Anyway five years is long enough so now I'll just volunteer at my local branch and hope my contribution there will end with better results.
I hope everyone has a great rest of the week

Deb, so sorry to hear about your resigning your seat on the library board. Volunteering at your local branch sounds like a good idea, and quite possibly the librarians there will be much more appreciative of your contribution than those graceless toads on your (now former) board. Good luck!
Thank you all for the well wishes. We are all feeling much better, though none of us has moved on yet to a solid food diet. We're still existing primarily on Jello and liquid drinks like Ginger Ale and Sprite. I've got some eggs boiling, as my mom said she thinks she remembers they are supposed to be binding. I plan to only eat half of mine, just in case. For lunch, probably some chicken noodle soup. My! What excitement! heh! ![]()
dulcinea3, so glad to hear about the positive results from your mother's test. I'm sure that was a relief.
becke, good luck as you continue to get your house in tip-top shape for moving.

Fricka, I may use this graceless toads quote from you on my resignation letter, thank you for making me feel good about my decision and smiling too.
