I did just read The Greene Murder Case by S.S. Van Dine and I must say I think I prefer the movie versions of the Philo Vance books.

I guess doing a lot of reviews would keep you pretty busy!

Re: What are you reading right now?

Hi, Ryan, too bad your blog is becoming a chore. But reviewing books has to be fun especially if you like the book. Glad you stopped in to say hello. We've all missed you on the boards.

Hi Ryan!!!  Great to see you again!  Sorry to hear that the blog is starting to drag you down - isn't it often the case that something is new and exciting for a while, and then eventually the novelty wears off and it starts to get tedious.  How difficult is it to extricate yourself, or at least not have to spend as much time on it - maybe only post on it once or twice a week?

It seems like forever since you've been around, so I don't know if you're aware of our monthly feature where we discuss a classic American mystery author the last week of each month - it's fun!  You might enjoy that.  I hope you can manage to visit us at least once in a while!

Hope you and Aidan had a great Easter!!!

Murder by the Book (A Mr. and Mrs. North Mystery)

Once I get through the Minor Works by Jane Austen that I'm reading now, I'll be reading one of the North books!  I'm looking forward to it, because I remember enjoying them years ago when I read some.

Yesterday I was clearing out some of my father's books (so I can bring some of my overflow over to my mother's, since I have no more room!).  He liked thrillers, like Ludlum, Clancy, Le Carre, etc., which my mother and I don't read, but one of my friends said he'd take them.  Anyway, while I was looking through the shelves, I suddenly saw the name Ellery Queen, and grabbed that one right away for next month's feature!  I had a few short stories in anthologies already, but I think this is a 2-in-one paperback, so I got excited when I came across it!

Re: What are you reading right now?

Thanks Deb

I enjoy it to some extent but I do think I can only post 2 or 3 times a week anymore  I have a feeeling though, unless my mindset changes soon that it will be something I let go at some point in time.

Re: What are you reading right now?

I will definetly come aorund a little bit more as I start to back off the blog a bit more.  I think the pace of two to three posts a week works for me right now.

Re: What are you reading right now?

good morning all you mystery buffs, I just read a great mystery, historical literary, with a touch of woo-woo novel. For all of you former FirstLookers you'll remember this author

Katherine Howe and her debut novel

The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane

which was a FL winner and debuted at #2 on the NY Times Bestseller list, well Katherine has a new novel that comes out today and very timely as this is the 100th anniversary of the launching of The Titanic which has a major role in the novel. Katherine honored me by giving me a Q&A with her about her new novel

The House of Velvet and Glass

enjoy

and keep your fingers crossed because I've asked her to be my featured author in February of 2013 to read and discuss this novel as a group.

Re: What are you reading right now?

I'm re-reading

The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag (Flavia de Luce Series #2) audio-style. I'm also reading

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood Series #1) which is moving along a lot faster than

The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles Series #1)  which is the only book I read over spring break, but it still took me FOREVER to get through it! I don't know why it was so hard for me. I just couldn't focus on it for more than a few pages at a time, but it was really good! I really like Rick Riordan's writing.

The Ice Queen

I'm reading this book as I like Alice Hoffman's style of writing. She can make a subject or a time period very interesting!
