You're all reading some very cool books! I'm reading this one today:

Silhouette in Scarlet (Vicky Bliss Series #3)

Ahhhh, one of Elizabeth Peters' Vicky Bliss mysteries, becke. I do like that particular book a lot-- maybe because the setting is in Scandanavia, and the chemistry between Vicky and John Smythe is heating up a lot! ( Not to mention the menace of the Silhouette carver, and , um,  a sort of Viking type who's out to eliminate Vicky!)

This is the first Vicky Bliss book I've read. (Of course, when I bought it I didn't realize it was #3 in the series.) I like it a lot - I'm about halfway through it.

I love her description of the silhouettes (barring the sinister undertones) - my grandmother had silhouettes of her grandparents. I wonder where those got to?

Re: What are you reading right now?

Thanks Susan, tomorrow is my last day of it.  I tried to stay away from the computer the entire time, I did manage to stay away from the blog though.

I do too.  I would love to own some of these books with these covers, and not have the books falling apart :-)

I love the vintage covers - I wish some publishers would introduce a line of mysteries with covers like this.

True. The bindings are sometimes very fragile, and the pages yellow pretty fast.

Brownies and Broomsticks (Magical Bakery Series #1)

I've just finished reading this book by Bailey Cates. Since I love cozies with a cooking tie-in, this one was right down my alley. I can hardly wait for her second book in the series to be released, now!

Re: What are you reading right now?

I'm reading lots of things right now - kinda hectic, reading-wise - so where to begin?

I'm reading

A Study in Scarlet , but I am almost finished with it. I just started

David Copperfield (Barnes & Noble Classics Series)  and know this will take me the rest of the summer, most likely. I'm doing it audio-style, and it's about 5 inches thick with CD's. HUGE!

I'm also reading

Stardust and hopefully will get to

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette  in the next week or so.

Yes, it was excellent! I'm not getting much reading done with so much going on at my house, but TWISTED is really good so far - VERY suspenseful!

Bring Up the Bodies

I'm about half-way through Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel. It's written with Thomas Cromwell as the main figure.

A Killer Read (Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery Series #1)

I'm also reading this. It's a great cozy with literary and library tie-ins.

Oooh, becke, You'd love A Killer Read, then! Not only does the protagonist, Lizzie, host a Book Club, there are frequent references to other books; for example, in Chapter Two, there's a reference to A Veiled Deception by Annette Blair, and also to Agatha Christie. On top of that, for cat lovers, Lizzie has two Siamese with the names--get this! "Edam" and "Brie"! Tooooo cool!

Also, I like the quotes that Erika has put at the beginning of each chapter. The first one is my favorite so far--it's by Ruth Rendell: "Some say life is the thing, but I prefer reading." Purrrrrrr!:catvery-happy:

Re: What are you reading right now?

I just started General Fiction's September read

One Mountain Away  Emilie is one of my favorite authors and I have enjoyed her for years and I'm so happy that she'll be giving us a whole month of her time when we read this novel that comes out in August. She's also facing a huge transition in her own life as her minister husband is retiring after 40 years of service, they're moving, she had unexpected surgery and she's a prolfic author who's time demands attention to her own work as well.

If you love women's fiction you might think of putting this on your wish list
