Jekyl Island Club .  My mother gave it to me for Christmas; when she was recently in Georgia, she went into a bookstore and asked for mysteries with Georgia settings, which I thought was a nice idea.  This one concerns a shooting at an elite club on a private island frequented by the likes of J.P. Morgan and other millionaires; takes place in 1899.

What a great idea!

When I moved to Cincinnati, one of the first things I did was to look up local authors and check out their books. LOTS of romance authors live around here, and some good mystery authors, too. I'll post them in a separate comment.

I am about 3/4 through this, and have to say, it is an excellent read. I notice that there is a constant mention of the Arnot Case running through this, which I assume was the focus of the first book in the series, so I want to read that next, and then the next book in the series after that.

That's what I thought, too...then I read the first book. It's interesting the way the author reveals bits and pieces about the Arnot case and the recurring characters in every book, so we're always learning a little more.

Re: What are you reading right now?

I was really hoping to read Tara Janzen's long-awaited new release today, but mine hasn't come yet. And when I ran out to the local bookstore to buy a copy, they had just sold the last one! I'm so impatient!

Re: What are you reading right now?

You're all reading some great books! Ryan, glad to see you're continuing your journey through Agatha Christie's book list!

I'm reading a lighter book today - although, like most romances, there is quite a bit of suspense in it, too.

Gotcha!

Me, too!  Go, Ryan!!!

My mother doesn't like mysteries, although she did read Lilian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who mysteries after I finished them, because she likes Siamese cats.  She does, however, like biographies of interesting people, so when she went on a cruise last fall, I lent her Christie's Autobiography and also Come, Tell Me How You Live.  She greatly enjoyed them and loved the way Christie wrote, so now she is actually interested in reading some of her mysteries!  Now I have to decide which ones she would like, in order to keep her interest.  I am leaning towards just lending her the first with Poirot, Tommy and Tuppence, and Miss Marple, so that she can sample the ongoing sleuths.  And, of course, The Mysterious Affair at Styles and The Secret Adversary were Christie's first two novels, although The Murder at the Vicarage came somewhat later.  I hope she will like them and want to read more!

If it wasn't for you two wonderful people I would have done this willy nilly.  I think it's been really good to read them in order.

I think by reading them in order, you really get a sense of how her writing evolved.
