I'm reading Murder in a Hurry, by the Lockridges. As I recalled, Pam and Jerry North are reminding me of the gin-soaked Nick and Nora Charles from the movies (it's been a while since I read the Hammett novel that the first movie is based on, so I don't remember if the characters were as fully fleshed-out as they became over the course of the six movies starring William Powell and Myrna Loy). I love that the Norths have three Siamese, named Martini, Gin, and Sherry! I wonder if they ever made any movies based on the Norths. I do think I vaguely remember seeing something once.

I loved the Lockridges. Their Inspector Heimrich mysteries were my favorites, maybe because they were set in the section of the Hudson Valley near where I grew up. One of my favorites was the one which featured a famous linquist who could detect which state (and which region in a state) someone came from based on his/her accent.
Right now I'm reading "Treasure Hunt" by John Lescroart. I like the way Lescroart develops his characters and connects them with his other series (the Dismas Hardy series). Both series take place in San Francisco, and a tavern and a very peculiar diner (with its even odder special of the day offerings) are frequented by the main characters in each series. Wish the author would write another Dismas tale soon.

She's so good! It was really exciting to meet her last year at Left Coast Crime. Wish I could have stayed for the whole conference!

Death Comes Silently (Death on Demand Series #22)
Last night I started Death Comes Silently, by Carolyn Hart. A new Death on Demand mystery is always a treat!

Those of you familiar with the Death on Demand series will know that they are full of references to other mystery authors and books. Well, last night while I was reading Death Comes Silently, there was a reference to the Pam and Jerry North series! Annie was kind of rambling, and Henny told her she was like Pam North! So cool a coincidence, considering that the last book I read was a North mystery, and we are about to start our feature on them!!! ![]()

Right now I'm reading The Most Dangerous Thing by Laura Lippman and I'm finding that like the previous book I've read of hers, I just don't connect with it. There is something almost cold and sterile about her writing style that I just don't care for too much.
I have recently finished:
Death in the Clouds (Hercule Poirot Series)
The Franchise Affair (Inspector Alan Grant Series #3)
The Man in Lower Ten (Barnes & Noble Library of Essential Reading)

Hi Ryan, how was The Franchise Affair? I have that one, but I haven't read it yet. The only Tey I have read so far was The Daughter of Time.

It was my first Tey book and I really enjoyed it. I think I've decided that I enjoy female authors from the time period more than I do male authors.

Some great books here! Have you read these Laura Lippmann books? I really liked them both:

I'm reading a debut that I think will ring a lot of different genre fans bells
it comes out Thursday and I'll be having a Q&A w/the author
Faith Bass Darling's Last Garage Sale
it's not the comedy that you might think from the cover
