I just finished reading this. I liked it a lot, so will probably read the other two books in the series now.

Re: What are you reading right now?

The Prisoner of Heaven

Prisoner of Heaven is Carlos Ruiz Zafron's third book and is a sequel to his other two books, The Shadow of the Wind and The Angel's Game.

It is set once again in Barcelona, Christmas time in 1957. Daniel Sempere is married to his wife, Bea. They have a beautiful new baby son named Julian, and their close friend Fermin Romero de Torres is about to be wed. A mysterious stranger visits the Sempere bookshop. His appearance takes Fermin and Daniel into an adventure that takes them back to the 1940s and the early days of Franco's dictatorship. In this book we learn the background of Fermín Romero de Torres. Not only are secrets revealed about Fermin but Daniel also discovers secrets about his connection with David Martin which were touched upon in The Angel's Game.

Although, all three books can be read in any order, my suggestion would be to read The Shadow of the Wind and The Angel's Game first. There are many references to these two books throughout The Prisoner of Heaven.

Carlos Ruiz Zafron is one of the word's most read and best-loved writers and I was anxiously awaiting this novel for another dose of his beautiful prose. He did not disappoint, as this novel was an excellent bridge beween the first two and answers some questions but not all. Zafron does leave you at the end with an added anticipation for the last and final novel of the series.

I highly recommend this book and I give it 5 stars!

Re: What are you reading right now?

Right now I'm reading an October release

Last Chance Christmas

it's a great realatively new series staring a group of kooky characters living in Last Chance SC, and their place on the map is thanks to a miniature golf course called Golfing for God.

this is the third in the series

Then I'll be revisiting my August feature at Gen Fiction

The Dispatcher  this was an edge of your seat thriller that I'm happy to feature with the help of the author

I think Ryan read this one too.

Re: What are you reading right now?

1/1

  • Dolled Up for Murder

This is one of my "booty books" which I bought at the CozyCon which was held in Phoenix in May. Jane signed my book, and even ate lunch at the table I was sitting at! Of course, that would have predisposed me to like the book anyway, and I happen to own an antique doll, so I knew exactly what make of doll was on the cover as soon as I set eyes on it. Have to admit, I had started to read one of Jane's earlier books, and somehow got bored and did not finish it. However, I found this book to be quite the page-turner, and when I tell you that I stayed up reading last night in the wee hours to finish it, I mean that it is that good of a book! ( Since I'm still basically in my "catch-up-on-sleep" mode after spending so much time in the hospital with my mom last week, it would have to be a page-turner to get me to give up some of my sleep to read it!!!!)

Years ago I worked for Marshall Field's buying office in London. One of the buyers I worked with bought antique dolls for the store. I learned quite a bit about them but couldn't afford to buy the real thing. I do have a reproduction Jumeau doll, though - she's so pretty!

Re: What are you reading right now?

Love the Jumeau and Bru Jne dolls, becke! I have an Armand Marseille(sp?) doll which my mom brought for me when I was a little girl. Sorry to say I took off a lot of her underclothes, as I thought they looked old and tattered. Of course, I didn't know then that the doll's original clothes make it more valuable. Have to say, though, that the doll looked as though it had been used as a play companion and not a collector's item. She was also missing hair, so I covered her head with a silk scarf--very dashing, I thought. Years later I bought a wig and a velvet gown ensemble for her. I still have her up on a mantelpiece in our home. As Jane has Josie observe in the book, most dolls have more of an emotional or sentimental value than monetary, and that's sure the case with mine.
