Cruise Quarters - A Novel About Casino and Cruise Ships

I am happy to announce that Cruise Quarters - A novel About Casinos and Cruise Ships was chosen as Tripatini.com's read of the week for July 11. The New York Post called Tripatini, Facebook for travelers.

My novel is a fun, fast paced tale of working in the casino aboard a Regal Cruises cruise-ship. I wrote this novel with my husband and between us we have over a decade of experience working for luxury cruise lines.

The crew of the Regal Star resemble a mini United Nations, hiring people from all over the world. But unlike the UN, Regal Cruise's employees present a united front above decks as they attend to their passenger's every need. Below decks though, that is a different story.

Sarah Seldon is a croupier on the luxury liner. After many unhappy endings, and burnt out on shipboard romance, she is determined to forget about men and concentrate on becoming a casino manager. On land women face a dearth of GOOD men but on a ship giving up men would take willpower. The mostly male crew exists to serve her every need. Handsome Italian waiters bring her food, the Filipino steward cleans her room, English officers play poker with her and the Welsh plumber fixes her sink. She leads a cushy life, sleeping 'til noon, eating gourmet food, and the topper - she gets to wake up in beautiful new place everyday. All because she works in a casino, a place so bad it has SIN in the middle.

So if you would like to take a cruise today, please sample our novel  and let us know what you think.

Thanks, Cara Bertoia

Re: Are you the author of an eBook? Tell us about it!

Here is the blurb for my ebook, Down Jasper Lane, available through Smashwords and soon with nook:

In 1904 Ellen Copley and her father leave the rail yards of Glasgow for a new life in Vermont. Yet within weeks of her arrival Ellen is abandoned by her father, unhappy and alone. When her aunt invites her to Ontario, Ellen begins to carve a place for herself in a new and increasingly turbulent world. By USA Today bestselling author Kate Hewitt, the first in the Amherst Island trilogy.

If you enjoyed Anne of Green Gables, then Down Jasper Lane could be your kind of book! I'm a traditionally published author branching out into self-publishing.

thanks!

Re: Are you the author of an eBook? Tell us about it!

SAT & BAF!  Hi, everybody! I just paged back to make sure I hadn't posted on this thread, and it appears I haven't. I have two e-books that I'd like to share with you.

"SAT & BAF! Memories of a Tower Rat" Is a memoir of my two years in cold war, Heilbronn, Germany as security for Pershing II nuclear missiles. I was with C 2/4 Infantry from 1986 to 1988, and this book is how the experience looked through my eyes. It's a very honest, personal story. It's been out for several months, and it has been extremely popular with people who did that type of work during that era. It includes travel, adventure, romance, history, and a whole lot of irreverent humor. If you or anyone you know was stationed in Germany or would like to know what it was like, I hope you check it out. It's $2.99 on Nookbooks.

Recall! Return of the IRR

"Recall!" is a sequel to "SAT & BAF!" that recounts my recall to active duty in support of Operation Desert Storm. Here is the official blurb for it. It's only $.99 on Nookbooks.

There hadn't been a full-scale recall of the Individual Ready Reserves since the Korean War. In January of 1991, with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, many people believed it would take World War III to trigger a recall of the IRR. Many people were wrong.

They came from cities and farms and towns in every corner of the country. With only a few days' notice, they quit their jobs, dropped out of college, kissed their girlfriends or wives, and got on planes to Atlanta, Georgia with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They had long hair, beards, and bad attitudes. They descended by the thousands on Fort Benning, Georgia, and they were not happy about it at all.

In this entertaining, true story, the author relates his own experiences as one of the twenty-thousand IRR recalls who were ordered back to active duty in support of Operation Desert Storm. In a story reminiscent of "The Dirty Dozen" times ten thousand, the author takes you through the entire experience from beginning to end. He carries you along for the ride and explains exactly what it was like to be a recall. With the many IRR recalls over the last ten years of warfare, this first hand account could shed some light on how the current era of recalls began. (29,000 words +/-)

Thank you for this opportunity! I hope you check out my books, and if you buy them...thank you! I hope you enjoy them.

Re: Are you the author of an eBook? Tell us about it!

[ Edited ]

I just made one of my suspense novels free: Suspicions. What it's about:

If you like Mary Higgins Clark, you'll like Suspicions.

When a neighbor boy is kidnapped for ransom, Stacey Hunter is stunned to discover that circumstantial evidence points to her husband. Not able to believe he could be involved in such a horrifying crime, she sets out to discover who is really behind the kidnapping.

Complicating Stacey's efforts is the odd behavior of her supervisor, Patricia Summers, who has taken a keen interest in Stacey's husband. Though uncertain of her husband's faithfulness, Stacey presses on with her investigation to flush out the kidnapper and is faced with losing everything she loves, as well as her own life.

Suspicions does not contain any profanity or sexual content and is appropriate for all ages. It is 72,000 words long, which is approximately 275 pages.

Exit

My latest erotic thriller, "EXIT" has just been released from Simon & Schuster. Would love for you to take a peek at it :-)

Product description below:

Devoted husband, rising businessman…sex addict. With his life imploding around him, Michael Palmer is left with but one option: run.

In recovery from his sexual addiction, step five was the hardest for Michael Palmer: admitting to another the exact nature of his wrongs. But his dark compulsions were ruining his life, and rather than lose everything, he confessed to his wife, Rachel.

Sordid tales of anonymous sex, degrading sex, and huge chunks of his time mired in fantasy thought. Rachel’s response was surprisingly tempered. No tearful tantrums. No veiled threats. Not one mention of telling Michael’s employer, millionaire Malcolm Ferrer—who also happened to be her father— about her husband’s reckless and humiliating treatment.

Could there possibly be a luckier man alive? Michael doubted it very seriously. So why is he now running from the life he created with Rachel? Because suddenly everything is falling apart and finding an exit is going to be tough.

The Spaces Between - New Off-Beat Fantasy!

Where bumbling adventurers and an idiot man-child try to find a dangerous warlock in the heart of winter... served with a side of secret orders and demons.

Nook: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-spaces-between-martin-gibbs/1103809885?ean=2940013600331&itm=1&u...

Let us travel down a well-worn road, but take a few diversions. The Spaces Between may start off down a familiar path, but it quickly spins out of control, and we find ourselves engrossed in a captivating series of events that end quite unexpectedly. The ending is by far one of the most surreal and unique in the genre.

The land is Belden, and it is a small, peninsular nation, bordered by the mountainous and rugged Welcfer to the north. It is seemingly flat and meaningless and full of flat and meaningless people. Magic is wielded by those who show ability at a young age. While there are spells with names, the actual working of magic harkens more to the use of atomic energy or quantum physics--it is all in the spaces between the particles. The energy is not created, and there is no flow of magical power, but mages and warlocks harness energy already that is omnipresent, string it together, and create their magical spells (basically they are harnessing subatomic power, but they have no clue that is what they are doing).

A drunken lout (Zhy) meets a traveling mercenary (Qainur) who somehow convinces him to go on a great quest to the north to learn magic from a warlock stationed there. Along the way they meet a mage (Torplug) who is strangely without a horse. He agrees to follow for a short distance, but ends up staying with them as they have a few run-ins with trained assassins, an exotic liqueur, and the requisite demons.

When the travelers reach a large city, the story introduces a simple-minded individual (Bimb). In modern terminology, he would have Asperger's syndrome, or mild autism. In the fantasy land of Belden, he's "simple-minded". This perspective is told from the first person, in order to view the world through the eyes of someone simple and naïve. While he lacks basic skills, he is a talented musician and is good with complex numbers. And when he plays music, the dead can sometimes talk to him. One such deceased person visits him, and happens to be the father of the main drunk character. Enter another major cliché. But the first-person POV of Bimb is quite unique as we see how the world works through his eyes.

Re: The Wahl House Curse - by John T. Gaffield

Hello,

I did have this book listed earlier in this discussion, but I have extensively rewritten it since then. So if you enjoy mysterious haunted house stories, please consider reading a sample:

The Wahl House Curse  is $2,99

Peter Corbin was in need of a change with his job as a realtor in a busy Michigan suburb. A chance to transfer to a small town in mid-Michigan seemed to be what he and his wife Sarah needed. They purchased an old house for a bargain price without much regard for the troubled past. This proved to be something he would soon regret. The restless ghosts quickly made their presence known. (about 59,000
words).

Thank you,

John

1923

Here goes, I am the author of 1923 and it is $1.19 on Nook

Cheers,

Harry Smith

1923: A Memoir tells of a time and place when life, full of raw emotion, was never so real.

It's a personal as well as a social history. Smith has the knack of bringing the times to life in a way that few writers can manage. It's the ability to tell a story, the knowledge of when to move on & not labour a point.
--The Bookbag

1923 is a book that succeeds in two ways with ease, both as a personal memoir of a life lived in a volatile age and as a record of that age for all time. --The Current Reader

"1923" is uplifting and highly recommended.  --Midwest Book Review

1923: A Memoir is a protest against social injustice, corruption, war, famine, poverty, and societies blinded by greed. More importantly, it is the story of hope and the notion that anything can be overcome if desired.  --The Publishing Guru

Product Description

To say that Harry Smith was born under an unlucky star would be an understatement. Born in England in 1923, Smith chronicles the tragic story of his early life in this first volume of his memoirs. He presents his family’s early history—their misfortunes and their experiences of enduring betrayal, inhumane poverty, infidelity, and abandonment.

1923: A Memoir presents the story of a life lyrically described, capturing a time both before and during World War II when personal survival was dependent upon luck and guile. During this time, failure insured either a trip to the workhouse or burial in a common grave. Brutally honest, Smith’s story plummets to the depths of tragedy and flies up to the summit of mirth and wonder, portraying real people in an uncompromising, unflinching voice.

Science Fiction Adventure

The fate of the universe rests in the hands of one man.

... the universe is so screwed.

A hero in a whole other life, pilot Nick Pike has since made it onto all the wrong lists – with his name right at the top of God’s To Stomp list. He’s found, however, his own Garden of Eden in the form of an intergalactic cargo-hauling business he runs with his friend and former teammate, Darby. But, like any Eden, this one comes complete with a snake.

When his sorely-in-need-of-repairs ship, the Pike’s Pique, makes an emergency landing on a planet straight out of the Ming Dynasty, that snake appears in the guise of a former – and definitely to be avoided – business partner. And the apple he holds out is a fast and easy job of transporting an accused killer to a local warlord. The bounty offered for his capture and delivery, he promises, will be more than enough to get the Pique up and flying again.

With creditors hounding them and with no other prospects in sight, Nick gives reluctantly in to temptation and takes a bite out of that apple. All, however, is not quite as it seems. In fact, nothing is at it seems. Nick and Darby must then band together with an unlikely crew as they try to keep a little knowledge from being a very dangerous thing.

Re: Are you the author of an eBook? Tell us about it!

Thank you for this opportunity to share my story. I am the newly published author of Apologies From a Repentant Christian, and my name is Donna L. Young.

The back cover summary of the book reads:

I called myself a Christian because I wore a cross, prayed to God and attended church regularly. Yet, I lied, gossiped, and judged others without mercy. I misrepresented my God with my behavior, attitude, and words. Such was my life.

In my prayers I asked for God to use my life to glorify Him, but was ill prepared for the response. I was arrested and charged with a felony! In deep and dark despair, I turned to Jesus Christ for help, and He was there to save me, as I sorrowfully repented for my past sinful behavior!  Jesus transformed my heart and I was blessed with unimaginable peace and joy.

This is the story of the healing power found through Jesus Christ. I am living proof that people can change and that choosing to live a righteous and holy life brings joy.

The book is available Now on Barnes & Noble.

Blessings!

Temp

“Local Boy Makes Good, Dies of Trying Soon After.”

Fearful of this epitaph, Gary Gray seeks to avoid career pressures by working as a temp. Unfortunately, Gary repeatedly gets into trouble by being too conscientious and outperforming the permanent employees. No matter how hard Gary tries to be a meek office worker, he can’t seem to stop himself from becoming a competitive threat to his co-workers and superiors. Meanwhile, Gary’s girlfriend is smart and beautiful, and he just might be able to hold onto her if he can stay employed and quit accidentally mooning her mom.

Gary runs afoul of a host of difficult characters in the workplace. Marge Meko is thoroughly incompetent, but she has “the goods” on the boss, so she easily gets away with blaming her errors on Gary. Marge’s boss, Steve, wants all problems swept under the rug before they become an inconvenience to his cushy position. Rae is a secretary with an overblown ego, intent on consolidating power by crushing all her perceived competitors. Gary is convinced that College President Burton is a mere figurehead, pulled from the ranks of the indigent and propped up by Rae, the power behind the throne. Through his trials Gary comes to the amazing revelation that it may actually be less painful to die trying than to live the “easy” life of the temp.

High Road To Tibet - Travels in China, Tibet, Nepal and India

High Road To Tibet

Description
Ranging from the crumbling ramparts of the Great Wall of China to the breathless heights of the Himalayas, John Dwyer travels across Asia's wildest regions and celebrates the journey rather than the destination. Follow his adventures in China, Tibet, Nepal and India as he describes how he drank snake blood, was smuggled into Tibet, and watched the dead being cremated on the banks of the Ganges.

Reviews
You [John Dwyer] really do give an authentic feeling of the contrasting atmospheres as you move from place to place. - Dervla Murphy, international best-selling author of Full Tilt.
If you really want to find out about Asia, this book is a must buy for you. - Bibi Baskin, television and radio presenter.
It takes a very good travel book to make a Corkman want to leave his home-town - but one such book is High Road To Tibet - Evening Echo.
