Free Promo NOOKbook summary - December 24, 2010

This is my list of short-term promotional NOOKbooks. I'm just listing the titles, without the covers. You can mouse over the title to see the cover if you want.

I've put the publisher's name in [brackets], which might give you a clue about the content. Zondervan, Tyndale House, Thomas Nelson, and Abingdon are Christian-oriented publishers. Samhain titles tend to have adult content, and are about the only free promotional titles available to Canadians. Galaxy publishes L. Ron Hubbard's books.

Perennial free NOOKbooks (not samples)

I've brought over a bunch from my "free promos" list because they're shorter works. In my experience, those tend to stick around as perennials.

Here's a list of NOOKbooks that seem to always be free, so I don't include them on my promos list. Here again, I'm not including the Smashwords titles because there are about 2000 of those and I'm too lazy to put them all here. I'm also leaving off free samples and excerpts.

Most of these are romances and/or shorts. A few are reportedly teasers, and probably shouldn't be on this list.

From Harlequin and its imprints:

From Samhain (read the cautionary notes):

From Ellora's Cave:

From Hachette:

From Random House:

From Macmillan publishers:

From Hyperion (Disney):

From A&E Television:

From MPS:

From Lonely Planet:

Reference works from MobileRead (these are mostly short excerpts promoting paid versions, but probably useful on their own):

This one still seems to be free from B&N.  Don't know for how long though.  Just downloaded it.  Many thanks to Doug for keeping this thread going.  Great job, Doug!  :smileyhappy:

Okay, I've put More Stories Behind the Best-Loved Songs of Christmas back on the list. It was free, then it was $0.01, then it was $9.99, then it was free, all in the space of about six hours today. Makes my head spin. :smileytongue:

Thanks for the heads-up on it.

Re: Free Promo NOOKbook summary - December 28, 2010

I'd just like to point out while I casually look through the previews of the books that you so awesomely put up, that some of those covers aren't exactly all that exciting or very good. I know there are lots of people who aren't a fan of the self published books, but you have to admit some of them sure do have some great cover designs that the big boy publishers don't crank out. So kudos to that.

And once again, thanks for the continually updated list of freebies Doug!

Smallworld - free e-book (via Smashwords)

I don't normally mention free Smashwords titles, and I don't keep them in my free list because there are just too many of them, but the author of this Sci-Fi novel has some pretty good credentials in the British Sci-Fi short-story scene. I wonder how this foray into novel-length writing turned out?

Free B&N NOOKbook ~ When Is It Updated?

Ok so I know where to access FREE nook books, and I have been sucessful in getting free books but my question is:

When is this list updated from B&N? Is it every Friday? Once a month? Randomly? When should I be checking for FREE books?

Thank you for the helpful information so far! I apprecaite it!

If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a hoper, a prayer, a magic-bean-buyer. If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire, for we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in! ~ Shel Silverstein
