Goodreads/Facebook question

For those of you who are goodreads users:

I recently signed up for goodreads. Is it worth it to upgrade my FB to the new Timeline profile just to have the goodreads integration?

I've been holding off on Timeline because I prefer the old profile style.

Thoughts?

Re: Goodreads/Facebook question

I did the same a few hours ago.  I HATE Timeline, but it was inevitable anyway.

I don't integrate anything with Facebook as they are constantly changing their privacy policies, so I can't keep up with making sure everything is private, so I don't want anything linked to Facebook.

Re: Goodreads/Facebook question

I've made my peace (for now) with the beast that is FB. It's benefits (as of today) outweigh the negatives for me. But it's become less so each day.

For example, I started using iTunes again (yeah, I know...) and it seems to share some interesting data with FB, even though there not technically linked. I ripped a CD I own to my iTunes. A day or two later I get an ad on FB for software to organize my music collection, but it features the artist of the CD and of their extensive catalog the exact CD I had ripped to iTunes. This seemed a little too coincidental.

Admittedly, I also "like" this artist on FB, but the timing was a little creepy.

Of course, of all the advertising I have to deal with online, FB's is the least annoying because it is so targeted, but still...

I get the same kind of on-target placement for book ads too, thanks to liking B&N and the Nook pages.

Re: Goodreads/Facebook question

Everyone is going to get timeline (I had thought it was already rolled out to everyone, but if you don't have it yet, you will soon), so don't let that be a deciding factor.  I *think* my FB and Goodreads are linked, but I haven't checked in a while; I see FB as a necessary evil, like LinkedIn.

FYI even though logic dictates that everything that's posted to FB should appear in the timeline and should appear when it's posted to FB, that's not the case.  Some stuff doesn't appear, and some stuff appears further down in the timeline (i.e. if I post a link through facebook and it appears at the top of my timeline, and then two hours later I post to my tumblr account, the tumblr post will appear below - "earlier" in my timeline - simply because FB downgrades it for whatever reason).  I'm not sure how the Goodreads posts appear, but it may not be how they logically should.

I used to link Goodreads to twitter, and that was nice for connecting with other twitter readers of the same books, but since I switched my twitter name to my pen name and my Goodreads account is under my real name, I decided to de-link these two.

I'm on Goodreads - If you friend me send me a PM :smileyhappy:

[ Edited ]

I was chagrined to discover recently that Goodreads was posting most everything I was doing there on FB. If you're going to link to FB, be sure to check your settings on the "apps" tab under "My Account" in Goodreads, where it gives you some control over which actions do or don't get posted.

Re: Goodreads/Facebook question

I really like having my goodreads and facebook linked, but I really dislike the timeline on facebook. I would not have upgraded just for goodreads, but as it happened anyway I appreciate the goodreads widget.

Re: Goodreads/Facebook question

How exactly do you get it linked? I clicked on something that said Goodreads on Facebook and it just pretty much took me to my Goodreads page... Does that mean I'm linked now?

Go to your "My Account" page on Goodreads and click the "apps" tab. You'll see a section for Facebook. It will say "connected" if you are, or it will give you something to click to get connected if you aren't. Be sure to tweak the settings for sharing after you connect (see my previous post).
