How do I update a review?

I posted an honest but less than favorable review of a book and B&N has hidden the review for "Terms of use" violations. The message on my home page states that if I update the review it will be reconsidered. I cannot find a way to do this. Even if I do I will not change my review as it has no violations I can find. I state that I found the book boring but gave the author one star for her effort. I then suggested readers should download the free sample and decide for themselves. If you know how to update or delete a review I'd appreciate some instruction. Thanks!

Re: How do I update a review?

You'll probably want to post this question on the new Ask B&N board. That way you'll know that someone from B&N will actually see it.

Re: How do I update a review?

Thanks.  I actually wasn't thinking of making an "official" issue of it.  I thought perhaps a fellow user might have a clue.  I generally find fellow message board members more helpful than official channels but again, thanks.  :smileyhappy:

Unfortunately there's no magic we can give you; there's no secret to making it work.  The review function is broken.  A lot of forum members have been asking for this to be fixed, to no avail.  Maybe adding another voice to the request to B&N will help.

B&N's review system: an embarrassing fiasco

What keriflur said. The customer review system has been broken in so many ways, for so long a time (years, for some of the problems), that we've given up. It's unusable. Totally, completely, unusable. Reading the reviews is a waste of time, and writing a review is an even bigger waste of time.

If you hunt around, you'll find dozens of threads imploring B&N to fix the customer review system. And you'll find a total lack of response. B&N apparently just doesn't care. They don't even have the class to shut the system down, which at least would keep kids from using it as a replacement for Twitter.

The standard recommendations here are to read the reviews at Amazon and/or GoodReads.

Re: How do I update a review?

What Keri and Doug said are the reasons I recommended making an official issue of it. B&N has implied that on the new Ask B&N board we can actually expect an official company response, and I'd like to see one about this. (Alex has personally taken care of a handful of similar requests on a one-off basis in the past. But that's just a bandaid.)

Re: How do I update a review?

I have had experiences similar to Jesla and others regarding book reviews.  It seems the only reviews that make it through the system are positive reviews.  If you write an honest review with a low rating you are locked out from commenting on other books.  That may be great for publishers but it is not great for the readers.  In my opinion it is also not great for B&N.  If people pick up enough lousy books they start looking for other sources.  - - That may explain why by favorite novel was written in the 1800's.

Since I rarely comment on anything I just want all of you to know I appreciate this topic and the tips on where to go for book reviews.  I also appreciate Sun_Cat's comments about going to the B&N Board.  To be honest I never considered this option since I read mostly for enjoyment.  When I want to see a tangled web I just turn on the news.

Finally the big irony is that B&N sends me e-mails asking for my comments all the time.  Given all of the above I just feel irritated when I receive the e-mails and think - - You are kidding right??

Re: How do I update a review?

I hadn't realized this is an ongoing problem.   For what it's worth I did go over to "Ask B&N"  and re-posted the question. Thanks for the replies.
