Hi. I am looking for suggestions/recommendations of what authors or specific books I should try...
Mainly I have been reading romance novels... I do like them - but actually prefer them NOT too over the top... if you know what I mean..
I have also read and enjoyed some Christian Fiction, like Karen Kingsbury...
Suspense/Mystery.... sort of a mix... nothing too graphic or extreme... and I don't often follow all the minute details (I try not to think too hard when I read - more of an escape)... but certainly not against it if there are some good ones...
Not really into political books... mainly because there is too much there to try and follow, and I'm not really into all that
Basically, I enjoy a light read - not anything I have to think too hard about or spend a lot of time trying to read and re-read to understand the background or what is happening...
I have not really tried any sci fi or fantasy - partly because of not knowing which are good... but also because I think (right or wrong) that I would have to spend more time trying to understand the background/situation, etc and it would be harder to read... especially if they use names or terms that are foreign to me... then I have to try and keep those straight, too...
I would love to hear any recommendations... especially for free or cheap reads... but any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks.
Berit

They're not free, but if you like Karen Kingsbury you might like Lori Wick (my favorites are Bamboo and Lace, or Princess). Dee Henderson has a few different Christian fiction series. I've also recently read Save the Date by Jenny B. Jones and really liked it.
I always keep an eye on the free ebooks and find a handful of christian fiction books each month. I hope that helps.

"A" Is for Alibi (Kinsey Millhone Series #1)
B Is for Burglar (Kinsey Millhone Series #2)
C Is for Corpse (Kinsey Millhone Series #3)
Sue Grafton's alphabet mystery series is my very favorite series. The books are very easy reads and I typically read them in 2-3 days.

Thanks! Those all look like good suggestions. I will give them a try...
Also, I have read some of Dee Henderson's books - and did enjoy them. I may look for her others... and I may re-read them, too as it's been awhile.

The Restoration Series by Terri Blackstone. The first is "The Last Light." She is a christian writer, and this series is great! We lose all electricity, electronics, and such. Very good.

Read this one in about a day and a half. It is very good. It's not free, but a very good read!

Try Francine Rivers. She is a christian fiction writer. My favorite books of hers are Leotas Garden and Redeeming Love. I think Leotas Garden was a free book a few months ago.

Someone mentioned Terri Blackstone. The author is actually Terri Blackstock. She co-authored a series of books with Beverly LaHaye "Seasons". 3 titles in all. It was really great.

Good morning, I have a few romance recommendations that are not over the top. In fact, I instituted my own rating system and rate them as WBD (Wholesome but Dark)
My latest novel, Shadowbrook Manor, is a contemporary/historical ghostly romance that is set on the same island as the movie, Somewhere In Time.
Shadowbrook Manor - $2.99
Samantha Morgan's husband had a secret.
One that was revealed only after his death.
One that left her more angry than heartbroken.
One the led her to the historic Mackinac Island in upstate Michigan.
To a dark house with a dark past . . . And haunted by a dark ghost.
WARNING: Readers do not scour these pages for things that cause fear and fright.
This is a tale of subtle ghostly happenings and romantic delight.
The Haunted Hillerman House is a contemporary/historical romance with a cozy mystery feel set in the small Midwestern town of Dixon, IL. (Hometown of our late President Ronald Reagan)
The Haunted Hillerman House - $2.99
Secret messages. Family secrets. A Halloween night trip to the family crypt.
Sela Whitley returned home for vacation. The last thing she expected was to find romance with the new handsome neighbor or stumble unto a century old family secret.
WARNING: Readers do not be fooled by the title of this book. It is not your typical horror story it is one with a hook. A complicated telling of love and romance, that led to murder from just one dance.
Her Knight With a Shining Star is and old fashioned western romance set in the Colorado Rocky Mountains during the turbulent times of the Railroad Workers and Coal Miner's strikes of 1894. These strikes were so violent that President Cleveland established Labor Day as a national holiday six days after they ended.
Her Knight With a Shining Star - $1.99
U.S. Marshal Ethan Davis arrived in New Castle Colorado on business, but stayed for the promise of a mere kiss from the beautiful orphaned daughter of a slain shop owner.
