Walmart adapting to digital world...

Saw this article today:

http://nwahomepage.com/fulltext/?nxd_id=324442&adid=1500000000000023901560

This would be great for our NC and NT's...I wonder if ebooks will eventually be set up like this as well?

I think it would be fantastic if they did this for physical books - though I think the interesting caveat here is that it's streaming, so you don't actually get a digital copy.  This would be great for reading on a phone, and for a tablet that's got a 3g/4g connection, but it might be troublesome if you only have a wifi connection and are travelling, as airports, planes and hotels often want you to pay for wifi (or they don't offer it at all).

Recently Finished: The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey ← SO GOOD!
Up Next: Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore
After that: The Wolf and the Watchman

It would be amazing to have all my physical books converted! Even to have all my ebooks in a format that could be read on any device (including kindle ebooks) without having to hack the device.

I wonder if a standardized format would have to be developed that could be read on all devices? I imagine the hold out would be Amazon though. They are pretty invested in their proprietary format.

I read about 1dollarscan.com. I have not tried it but read some good reviews.

Re: Walmart adapting to digital world...

This bit of the article should be noted:

Walmart teamed up with six of the major Hollywood movie studios

Besides, there's really no equivalent for e-books. You don't have a physical disc containing the e-book, and there's no need to stream it to your phone. You can just read the e-book right on the phone as-is.

What might be interesting is to have your Kindle e-book readable on your NOOK, but what store is going to be able to arrange to do that?
