Re: What is everyone reading (revisited)?

Alternating between reading these two books:

**bleep** My Dad Says

Canticle (Psalms of Isaak Series #2)

The above is based upon my opinion... yours may vary!

Stick with it.  The Dark Tower series is one of the most underrated series out there.  It is epic in scope.  Totally engrossing.  Not normally what you would think of when you think Stephen King but absolutely crucial to read if you love King.

I can't believe this series is over looked by Hollywood in the wake of all the other popular series titles being optioned.  That is just fine in my opinion, this series is such a purely wonderful literary work Hollywood will only ruin it.

At least try to get to Wizard and Glass (book 4), which is (IMO) Stephen King's best work and one of the best novels of the 20th century. After that, the series really goes downhill as King forced himself to finish it after his car accident.

A friend of mine at work told me the exact same thing yesterday. :smileyhappy:

Re: What is everyone reading (revisited)?

Earlier I reported I was reading

Flood.   Has anyone ever read this, because I'm about 1/3 through it and I'm having trouble sticking with it.  I'm thinking of moving on to another book,

Noah's Compass.  Both are library books, so I need to read them now, I have another library book that just came in.  Hope this one is better.

And this morning I started this

I have been trying REALLY hard to get into this but I am on page 123 and it still hasn't grabbed me. I was really wanting to love this series and am disappointed that I don't

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium Trilogy Series #1)

I describe that book as a "mystery sandwich". There is a mystery in the middle, but you have to muddle through about 150 pages to get to it, and then when the mystery is done there's about 100 pages more after that. The "bread" of the sandwich is Blomkvist's libel suit, which just isn't anywhere near as interesting as the mystery in the middle.

A caution: the mystery is rather grisly.

All-in-all, I found it to be an unpleasant book. The libel suit stuff was quite boring, and the mystery was extremely disturbing. Obviously, a lot of other people didn't have that problem with this book.

I just finished reading The City and the City.

As soon as I put that down I picked up

Julian Comstock

as I continue my quest to read all of this year's Hugo nominees.

Re: What is everyone reading (revisited)?

I'm glad I kept with it because I ended up enjoying it a great deal. I'm not sure what I'm going to do tonight because I'm already going through withdrawals because I have a softball game tonight. I may have to take my Nook with me so I can read between being on the field. :smileyvery-happy:

Re: What is everyone reading (revisited)?

Simultaneously reading a DTB and an ebook.

DTB:

The Inner Tradition of Yoga

Ebook:

Shutter Island

And next on my list is:

The Passage

Yeah, jumping on the bandwagon, but I'm about to take a road trip from Texas to Florida and back and I need some long reading!

Re: What is everyone reading (revisited)?

I am currently reading

Soul Intent

This is the authors second book, and a sequel to

Soul Identity

Soul Identity was a fun book to read. It's a thriller with an excellent story. I did not want to put it down.

This was the first book I read on my nook since purchasing it less than a week ago. I was happy to see the sequel was available.

I checked the authors website and the third book should be out sometime next year.

Soul Identity is a free download and Soul Intent (the sequel) was less than a dollar. I can't believe they were priced so low. I highly recommend if you're interested in a good story.

My next book, after I finish Soul Intent, is

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter  :

I'll let you know what I think when I'm done :smileyhappy:

Re: What is everyone reading (revisited)?

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was a fun read.  I really liked it.

Anyway, right now I'm reading:

I'm about halfway in to it and LOVING it.  Very griping, and "can't-put-down-able".

After that I'm reading

Brasil #1

Re: What is everyone reading (revisited)?

[ Edited ]

Just finished:

Catching Fire (Hunger Games Series #2) It has been one of the best YA books/series I have read so far.  I am really looking forward to the next installment.

I am trying to debate what I want to read next.  Should I stay on my YA streak and read

Marked (House of Night Series #1)

Or do I want to dabble in:

The Passage

Or decide on a comfort Author and reread

The Cardinal of the Kremlin as it is the last Jack Ryan book I made it half way thru when I started reading the series for a second time.

Any advice?
